The Decathlon Foundation is a company foundation.
This foundation was set up to contribute to the integration of women, men and children through the practise of sport.
It will support projects in which company staff are involved as volunteers.
It is also intended to encourage the involvement of staff who wish to commit themselves to solidarity action, with sport serving as a vector of integration.
|
Who might benefit from this?
People in difficult situations, who are excluded from society and/or disadvantaged.e.g.: the physically and mentally disabled, young people from poor areas, children living on the street, delinquents seeking reinsertion and the unemployed (non-exhaustive list) whatever their age.
In which countries?
- In countries where company staff are based (production, distribution, suppliers, etc.). There are currently 20 such countries throughout the world.
| |
How?
- The foundation supports this solidarity action financially (3,5 million euros for the first five years) and through donation of sports equipment.
| |
In order to qualify for support, these projects must meet the following criteria:
- involve disadvantaged people in the practise of sport;- this practise of sport must contribute to their integration; - one or several staff must be involved in the project locally and on a volunteer basis (lead by the associations concerned and/or by staff) A board of trustees approves the projects every quarter.
and which were started in the third quarter of 2005:
The project aims to install football pitches and basketball courts for these young people in the very areas where they live, at the foot of their buildings, with sports educators present on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Volunteer staff from Decathlon will come to help out the Sport dans la ville team of educators.
The project also envisages the construction of a training centre next to these pitches.
Provide financial assistance for two basketball and tennis programmes for the children (alongside existing reading, painting, computing and theatre workshops).
The eight volunteers from Decathlon Brazil will give basketball and tennis lessons. They will be involved individually at least once a week in the Gol de Letra foundation.
The project also includes training the favela youth (18 to 21 years old) to become certified sports educators. They will then be able to train other children.
