Triban rc500

Bought this jacket to be more visible in the winter commute. Does that brilliantly. Just the right amount of breathability. Fabric has good water resistance. Couple of improvements to make it better would be a more breathable fabric on the back. And moving the vents closer to the front zip as they are less effective when wearing a backpack.

Quite good

Needed a second winter jacket as I started to cycle more than before. This jacket is comfortable, highly visible. Quite warm yet the wind stopping aspect could be a bit better. Water repellence is OK, used in small drizzle but not in heavy rain. With such a colour gets stained easily but washes OK and dries quickly. My previous decathlon winter jacket had zip on wrist, took me a while to get used to this one but OK. Similarly the pockets on the back are lower cut and quite loose. A bit scary at the start, but I still have my mobile phone and keys. Side pockets are a bit loose too, but no losses so far. Just feel that my 12 years old Decathlon Btwin winter jacket was a bit warmer and more windproof. Yet both have the same weight (within 10g). So maybe psychological, but still believe my older one was a bit more wind proof (hence only 4 stars instead of 5)

Very well made, excellent product quality &VFM

i bought one of these in Oct 19 and ive ridden through 2 British winters with it, and its still in good condition. I bought it as a wind proof and it is very effective at stopping wind. Well tailored and uses good quality windproof material. Nice tight cuffs, hugging fit, plenty of pockets and a nice neck tube - this was designed by a cyclist for sure. I've washed it maybe 10 times and it hasn't faded. Its good down to -1 degree celcius (realfeel minus 8) with just a merino layer underneath. You have vents under the arms which are easy to open on a hillclimb. Great product. You could pay double for the same thing under a different brand.

Excellent jacket for Winter

I have been using this jacket for commuting and low-intensity rides. I wear this jacket when the temprature is below 10 degrees. The fit is just right - neither relaxed nor tight. I am 170cm and 65kg, and the medium fits me well. The overall build is very good. The chest pocket is a nice for a phone and wallet. I would improve this product by changing from a 2 pockets to 3 pockets in the back. I find that the large pocket is too big.

D. Unsworth

After going by the size guide which says I needed a medium jacket, I went to the pick up point in front of the store, tried on the jacket with just a base layer on and it was a perfect snug fit. It's great for commuting to work, cars pass more widely. Training at low temperatures 0 to 5 degrees if you get warm you can open the vents which help. Not used in the rain yet but fluffy snow just bounces off. It's great in the wind being a snug fit so if you prefer a looser style then choose a size bigger. I'm 179 cm tall and weigh 73 kilos. If the temperature drops to zero or just below I'd probably wear another jersey underneath.

RC500 softshell

I was pleased to roll out in this softshell. I have only work with single layer underneath and it fits snugly with no flapping. Good range of pockets for the various sized bits we all carry. Chest pocket good for phone and side pocket good for my keys. A real bonus is the integral neck tube which is handy for covid times and keeps my neck toasty. A very comfortable jacket with plenty of reflective panels for visibility in town

Excellent winter jacket

Jacket copes well with the odd rain shower. It fits well and is comfortable on the bike. Only slight downside is lack of breathability. After a ride I find the inside of the jacket is damp whilst the out shell remains dry.

excellent and confortable

really like this the high vix is very high vis, it also is well designed-does not 'role up' when riding and well positioned pockets-makes a differene for keeping warm, but not too hot when cycling

Great piece of kit

Definitely worth buying, fits well and will definitely be seen when I am out cycling while wearing this. Glad I bought the size bigger as it is a snug fit.

Great Piece of Cycling Kit

Purchased for winter training on a cycle, used twice to three times a week. It’s warm, it’s bright and it keeps me dry. It’s a great piece of kit. The only negative that I could possibly highlight is the tightness of the cuffs in the sleeves. If your wearing a smart watch of any capacity and need to look at it, to get to the screen, you’ve got to drag the cuff back with some force to be able to see the face. Not the end of the world, but a little elastication on this section of the garment would work wonders.

Quality cycling jacket

This jacket is extremely well made with 2 ventilation zips plus 2 zipped pockets ,its not been very cold lately and used with a long sleeve base layer without getting to warm .I looked at other brands costing much more without any better features before buying. Very reasonably priced In my opinion, the HI VIS is a big thumbs up on cycle paths and on the road . My local Decathlon store only had the RC100 in stock so after trying on the Large jacket" fit was very good " I ordered the RC500 in Large but had to return it for the XL this fits very well ,Im 5ft 10in slim build so thought this might help if ordering online. I only have one small negative the reflective wrist band is not as elastic as the other material making it difficult to pull over my Garmin watch

Winter top

Worn 8 times in 2-10 degrees over light merino long sleeved top + Helly Lifa for coldest rides. Excellent performance: snug but not over hot. 12 stone, 42 chest, 33 waist - size Large perfect fit.

Well made and comfortable

The visibility is great and the product is really well made (so far). Please note it seems to come up quite small, but if you like a snug fit maybe not an issue. I would suggest trying on if you can. It's not too warm (wore it the other day at about 7C and my arms were nold, but I didn't have a sleeved underlayer so that would help). Water resistance is good - rode in drizzle and didn't feel a drop.

The en1150 visibility standard

The effectiveness of this jacket's visibility has been certified by an external Finnish laboratory according to the very demanding EN1150 standard. It guarantees excellent visible during the day (thanks to the neon yellow) and at night (very powerful reflective patches). The standard also requires 360° visibility. You will therefore always be visible to drivers in any conditions.

The purpose of a cycling jacket

The third layer is the layer that protects you from the elements, for instance the cold and the wind, while the underneath layers offer warmth and breathability. By wearing a suitable cycling jacket, you will maintain your performance and comfort, whatever the weather. This RC500 cycling jacket keeps you nice and warm with its integrated, removable neck gaiter. The adjustable vents let perspiration escape

Warmth

A product's ability to protect from the cold. It depends on the material's thermal resistance and how much air can pass through it. The higher its thermal resistance, the more the product retains the heat produced by the body while cycling.

Breathability

To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we measure its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower its resistance, the more it lets water vapor produced by the body escape, therefore the more breathable it is. • RET <6: Extremely breathable, suitable for most intense workouts • RET 6 to 12: Very breathable, designed for moderate exercise • RET 12 to 20: Moderately breathable, not enough for exercise • RET >20: Little breathability, unsuitable for exercise

Care tips

Machine wash at 86°F. Synthetics cycle. Turn the article inside out. Use a minimal amount of laundry detergent. Do not use fabric softener. Line-dry in a warm, ventilated area. Do not tumble dry. Do not dry clean. Do not bleach. Do not place on a heater to dry.

What is a "softshell"?

A "softshell" is a garment that is windproof and often stretchy to allow very good freedom of movement. A softshell is water-repellent (protection from drizzle or splashes from the road), but isn't waterproof like a "hardshell". On the other hand, the membrane provides good breathability (ability to let water vapor generated by the body during exercise escape) and is therefore suited to sports activities.

Product testing

Our team of designers and cycling enthusiasts is based in Lille, in northern France, not far from Flanders and its legendary cycling routes. To get this jacket just right, we tested it all over Flanders throughout the winter: we believe that only by subjecting them to real world conditions, like the ones you experience on your bike, can we continuously improve our products.
