Bit disappointed - not as good as my Btwin 900

My 12 years old Btwin 900 cycling bib from Decathlon was started to show its age, so I instinctively went to them again for a replacement as I found Decathlon to usually offer great value for money. Went for the top of the range again as it's worth it for the time I keep my gear. A bit disappointed with it to be honest. PROS: - Good warmth and quality of the textile. Comfortable. Body was fine in a 4ºC fairly humid 70 miles ride. Would probably be OK a couple of degrees lower CONS: - pad is OK, but not super comfy. Should be a bit firmer/thicker. Was expecting more cushioning, especially from brand a new bib. Felt better on my previous 12 YO Decathlon bib. How will it age? The middle ridge is a bit underpaded. - lack of belly zip. Makes pit stop to water the hedges in the countryside not so practical - Weird shape and sizing. I am 6' and 82kg. Despite the size recommendation being between L and XL, XL ended up too tight on the legs for my taste. I had to exchange it for a XXL in the end but the belly section is baggy and the ankle section too. - the biggest let down is the ankle area. Ankles have lost their zip, I can live with that even if I prefer with as easier to put on with socks and overshoes. The biggest issue is that the material around the ankle is very thin which is definitely not as warm and insulating as the rest of the bib and the ankle section is to big, it goes mid calf (or the leg section is too short). Result: on colder rides I ended up with the top of my ankles/bottom of calf cold (3 inches areas between top of my overshoes and proper fabric of the bib). Not pleasant as this freezing area lets down the rest of the bib which would otherwise have been acceptable. Would have been just OK on an entry level, but for a top model not that cheap I am a bit disappointed

‘Bobbling’

Less than a month in and there’s bobbling on saddle area.

Not just another pair of cycling tights!

Whenever we design a new Van Rysel product, we look for performance first and foremost. So these cycling tights are not just another pair of cycling tights. We wanted cycling tights with a windproof membrane for rides in cold temperatures, a new outer layer to allow you to stay comfortable on long rides, and cycling tights that will last you for years to come!

Our design choices

Each material used for these tights was chosen for its outstanding performance.- Super Roubaix™, which is warm, soft, and elastic, used as the primary material - A windproof and water-repellent membrane on the thighs and shins - Super Roubaix™ with a wear-resistant coating on the seat so that your tights last a long time - Soft, flexible, and breathable mesh for the bib straps and back - An Elastic Interface pad for comfort during long rides

What is a membrane?

The membrane is a technical material that has impressive wind-resistant and water-repellent properties. However, it is not waterproof, and therefore the garment is not waterproof. The membrane's technical properties also make is less supple, which is why we only use it in areas that do not bend while pedaling.

Elastic interface pad

Because nothing, not even slight discomfort, should come bother you during your long rides, we decided to work together with the best to come up with the pad of our cycling shorts.Find out more about Elastic Interface: https://www.elasticinterface.com/

Different pad colours?

We completed the creation of these tights at the end of the 2020 winter. Then due to COVID-19 we ran into supply issues for the colors we had originally selected. So together with our suppliers, we decided to make the tights with the fabric colors available rather than run the risk of not being able to offer you these tights for the 2020 winter season. The pads are identical, there are no differences in quality, only the color may be different—and that will be a surprise!

What is the ”embossed” model?

We offer 2 versions of these cycling tights: one with a classic understated and streamlined look, and the other with an embossed design. The embossed pattern is purely a cosmetic design choice that gives your tights a bit of depth (and makes them less smooth), but does not lessen its technical qualities in any way.

Care advice

Your tights are there to protect you—take good care of them!Use a gentle 86°F cycle, do not tumble dry, do not dry-clean, and do not iron. Don't turn inside out when washing; line dry in a well ventilated area.

Product testing

Our cycling tights were tested over the 2019-2020 winter season by experienced cyclists in the Ardennes (Belgium) and here in Lille. These tights are the result of a collaborative effort between our design teams and feedback from 20 cyclists from inside and outside Decathlon.
