Product Customer Reviews

I have a lot to say about this style of wetsuit applicable to all brands, however, in this review I will stick to the major flaw in using this wetsuit in cold water. I swim and SUP in Scotland all year round. During the winter the water temperature is about 7 Celsius. In addition to the wetsuit, this also requires gloves and boots. I have been cold in many wetsuits before but never felt pain in an area covered by neoprene. With the hood attached there is not enough thickness in the neoprene in this wetsuit at the back of the neck. I am not talking about water which is leaking through the edges of the shoulders or around the face. This is cold felt through the wetsuit at the back of the neck and the lower part of the skull. With a classic zip at the back wetsuit, this would be the transition between the neck seal and the hood and thus be doubled. Let me be clear, it is not just cold but PAIN you feel through the thin neoprene material used in the hood which results in you feeling pain in the back of your neck. Other than this the suit would be just about warm enough.
Wetsuit when first purchased was surfed in 4 degree water and was amazing. Over 2 years and 200+ surfs later it is noticeably colder. However it can still handle 2h sessions in 8 degree water provided you have good quality boots and gloves. After two years the elastic bands at the end of the arms and legs have had to be re-glued. The seams around the wind panels on the front and back have had to be re-glued as well, These however have been removed on the latest version so this shouldn't be an issue. This wetsuit has been fairly well cared for so a user should expect 2 years of heavy usage or longer if used less frequently.
I kitesurf, in the UK, all year round, and am lucky enough to get in the water any day there is enough wind. I have owned a lot of wetsuits in the last 40 years, and currently own 3 winter wetsuits and 2 spring/summer wetsuits. I bought this suit today because i am kiting in the South of France in January and the hooded wetsuit i brought with me would be too warm for even the coldest days here and wanted an inexpensive suit that i could use here and at the start of the UK winter. This suit looked like a bit of a bargain price wise, but having used it i would say it offers only fair or good value. The air temperature today was 10deg the water temp was 13deg, and i would say that is the perfect conditions for the suit, I was not cold and kited for 3 hours. I WOULD take issue with the lower temperatures advertised, I would not want to use this suit in water temperatures below 9 degrees. But at a push if you didn’t have the luxury of being able to afford a 6/5 in addition maybe you could get away with it. The reason i suggest the suit is only good value rather than a bargain is it is made of a neoprene that is quite stiff in comparison to what is available. I no longer buy the supper stretchy neoprene suits as they do not wear well with the amount of kiting i am lucky enough to enjoy, so it suits me fine. But if you only kite at weekends and want a really flexible suit that lasts a couple of seasons maybe look elsewhere. On the water kitesurfing i honestly cant tell the difference between a stretchy suit and this one, but you might when paddle surfing. I would recommend with the caveats above. Oh and one more thing, like others have mentioned it leaks water at the knees.
I have not used yet, but the quality appears fantastic as I have always had from decathlon wetsuits. I have tried on and bought xl as I have always found the sizing on the slightly smaller side. I'm 6ft 1 13.5 stone for reference. I anticipate the suit to be very warm from the fleece lining and fit. The ankle and wrist seals are aided by a silicone type wrap and even though the suit is xl a very good fit. Thanks Richard noyes
when I ordered choice was L, M or Small. I am 5ft 9 , 36 chest I ordered med, but nearly had to get the fire brigade to get me out of it. Replaced with large fine except the chest, so sent back, ( still waiting for refund) Then I realised there is a choice of in-between sizes that do not appear on the system when 1st ordering i.e. med/tall, which would have been my 1st choice size.
I received the old version (the tribord one instead of the olaian). Changed it and received the old version again... poor service

Outstanding quality and so warm - I will never buy any other manufacturer of wetsuit again; no need to. This really is a premier wetsuit; going to buy the 4/3mm in spring....
I have had hundreds of wetsuits and this one was by far the best. Good movement and most important keeps you warm, I had it on for 6 hours in cold Atlantic water and felt like I was in a warm swimming pool :) Then when I used it in hot water it felt like the same tempature do I don't get over hot. A bit tight putting on and taking off, you might need some help, however this is the same on all neck entery suits :) Grate

How to choose the right wetsuit (part 1)
The first selection criterion when choosing a surfing wetsuit is the water temperature. Water temperature varies according to the location and the time of the year. Systematically make sure that the water temperature at your spot corresponds to the recommended temperature range: Warm water above 68°F. Temperate water between 62 and 72°F. Cold water between 53 and 62°F. Very cold water between 45 and 54°F. Visit the site seatemperature.org to find out the temperature of your spot.
How to choose the right wetsuit (part 2)
The 2nd criterion to take into account is the length of your sessions. If your sessions last less than an hour, the 100 models will be suitable. For up to 2 hours, opt for the 500 models and for up to 3 hours, the 900 models.Compared to the 100 models, the 500 models will be warmer (and more watertight) and more efficient at reducing fatigue (more freedom of movement) and irritation. The same is true for the 900 models compared with the 500 models.NB: the 900 models are easier to put on.
Choose the right size
To make the most of the features of your wetsuit, it is necessary to choose the correct size. A surfing wetsuit should be a very tight fit and there should be no visible folds. When dry, it is perfectly normal to feel like it is too tight, this discomfort disappears as soon as the wetsuit gets wet. If you choose a wetsuit that is too big, folds will appear, you will experience irritation and thermal insulation will be reduced (letting in water).Try it on before you buy it!
Materials
OLAIAN 900 wetsuits are made of 100% ultra-stretch neoprene, guaranteeing thermal insulation and ultra-flexibility. The neoprene is lined with synthetic fabric for added resistance to wear. Neoprene thickness: 5 and 4 mm. Neoprene is a closed-cell polychloroprene elastomeric foam with trapped nitrogen bubbles that have insulating properties. The flexibility of the 900 range is provided by the super-stretch properties of the foam and the textile.
Neck
The neck finish has been developed to limit irritation. According to the sensitivity of the wearer, a UV top can be worn under the wetsuit to reduce the risk of irritation. The application of grease (e.g. Vaseline) in friction areas (neck, underarms, knees) is also recommended if wearing the wetsuit for long periods.
Maximum freedom of movement
The 900 OLAIAN men's wetsuit range offers a style and material specifically chosen to facilitate paddling and fully ease movement. The entire wetsuit is made from ultra-stretch neoprene. All the seams are stretch seams. The front zipper totally frees up the back during use.
Zipper / removable hood
The 900 5/4 Switch wetsuit benefits from our new remov. hood.Depending on the conditions and your preferences, you can choose between a normal collar or hood built directly into the suit. This variation is permitted by the 2 zippers used in the opening systemThe front zipper that fastens across the front of the chest ensures freedom of movement while providing a better watertight seal than a traditional back zipper. The zipper slider is made of stainless steel to withstand exposure to salt water.
Magnet fastening / pacemaker warningkey pocket
Magnets can interfere with the proper functioning of pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.• A pacemaker could switch into test mode and cause faintness.• A defibrillator may stop working.• If you wear either of these devices, keep a sufficient distance away from magnets.NB: There is a key pocket in the front panel under the zipper.
Watertight assembly
The seams are stitched and glued to ensure a watertight seal and durability. The seams are blind-stitched, meaning the thread does not entirely pass through the neoprene, preventing water getting through. To further enhance the watertight seal and durability of the assembly of our 900 ranges, they are fully taped on the inside. The absence of threads on the inside avoids irritation and chafing. Patches for comfort and reinforcement are strategically placed on the inside in sensitive areas.
Product testing
Developed and tested by our design teams in Hendaye, France. The fabrics used for this product are laboratory tested to ensure the best possible quality and durability.
Storage instructions
In a dry, ventilated place. Avoid heat sources. To extend the life of your wetsuit, do not leave it out to dry in direct sunlight. Machine washing is not recommended.
