We measure a fabric's resistance to a water column, in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure withstood, the more waterproof the fabric. Components scoring 2000 mm can resist the pressure from 2000 mm of water (roughly equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours).
A membrane is a very thin (around 5 to 25 micrometers) polymer layer (polyurethane, polyester or PTFE) that is applied to the inner surface of a fabric to make it highly waterproof and breathable.
A breathable coating means that the surface is coated with a paste or liquid. Once applied to a fabric, it creates a protective layer often used as a waterproof barrier that wicks away water vapor.
WATER REPELLENT COMPONENT
Water repellent fabric allows water to run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. Fabric is made water repellent by applying a surface treatment. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (every 2 or 3 washes). Products are available for this purpose in our stores. All Wed'ze waterproof jackets have received a water repellent treatment.
They are waterproof adhesive strips. These strips are fastened behind the seams, and play an essential role in a garment's waterproofing. Even if a garment is made from highly waterproof materials, if the seams are not perfectly sealed, water will get through! Wedze tests the effectiveness of waterproofing strips on clothing after 5 washes, in order to guarantee that garments remain waterproof over time.
To determine whether a component is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower a fabric's resistance, the more water vapor generated by the body during sports can escape through the fabric, and the higher its breathability
Do you know that you feel colder in the wind? Where the outdoor temperature is 32°F with a wind-speed of 12 mph, it feels like 14°F.
"Windproof" components reduce this cooling effect by stopping the air flow owing to the wind and owing to the relative speed of the sports activity.
The fit of our jackets means they can be worn with an under-garment and an under-jacket.
Regular Fit => A classic fit, which is not too baggy or tight-fitting. It offers good freedom of movement. This fit is suited to all body shapes and all types of activities.
Relaxed cut => Loose-fitting jacket.
Athletic cut => Close-fitting jacket, adjustable sleeves and preformed elbows. Reasonably short jackets. Stretch fabric.
A mark to compare the environmental footprint of various products
The product's environmental footprint is calculated for its entire life and with various indicators.
An overall ABCDE mark is given to help you easily identify those products achieving the highest environmental performance by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, pants, backpacks etc.).
Decathlon displays these environmental data on a voluntary basis.
