It keeps you warm so the objective is met. But I recommend taking a size smaller because when the water rushes in, the liner slips. Personal opinion: I prefer the feeling of surfing barefoot even in cool water.
I like this product. Under pair of bodyboard fins.

They are comfortable and the perfect size
3 months of wing surfing (around 15 sessions). The hold is very good and they are comfortable to wear, except that they were almost too tight at first. So when water came in from above, it stayed in the absolutely tight neo socks = strange feeling. Warmth is fine, I was back in the 20 degree cold Traunsee and didn't feel any cold. Durability is poor in my opinion. The sole is tearing off on the heels and also on the sides, so they won't last a second season and are therefore too short-lived in my opinion. Therefore unfortunately no purchase recommendation.

When we are in the water, we lose more than half of our body heat through our extremities (feet, hands, head). Consequently, here are the recommended accessories: - in warm water and temperate water (>17°C) => neoprene low booties.- in cold water (12 - 17°C): High booties (boots) and gloves.- in very cold water (7 - 12°C): High booties (boots), gloves, balaclava and balaclava top.
How to choose the right boots
The first selection criterion when choosing a surf bootie is water temperature. Water temperature varies according to the location and the time of the year. Systematically make sure that the water temperature at your spot corresponds to the recommended temperature range: Warm water above 20°C. Temperate water between 17°C and 22°C. Cold water between 12°C and 17°C. Very cold water between 7°C and 12°C. Visit the site seatemperature.org to find out the temperature of your spot.
Choose the right size
Surfing socks should be a very tight fit to ensure the best possible thermal efficiency. It is perfectly normal for it to feel like they are too tight when tried on dry. Choosing well-fitting socks ensures a better fit and prevents them swelling with water in use.
Materials
The 3 mm surf socks are made of neoprene to ensure better thermal comfort. The neoprene is lined with synthetic fabric for increased resistance to wear. Neoprene thickness: 3 mm. The neoprene is made from an elastomer foam with insulating properties. We test and guarantee the thermal quality of our neoprene materials.
Thin sole
We chose a thin and light polyurethane sole to favour contact and sensations with the board. Therefore, this sock is not suited to long approach walks: in such a case, choose the 3 mm Surf bootie.
Watertight assembly
The seams are stitched and glued for a watertight seal and durability. The seams are ”blind-stitched”. the thread does not go all the way through the neoprene, preventing water from getting through. The absence of threads on the inside avoids irritation and chafing. Patches for comfort and reinforcement are strategically placed on the inside in sensitive areas.
Multi-water sports boots
Our surf booties are designed to meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. Our design choices also make them compatible with other water sports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, sea wading or SUP (stand up paddle boarding). These surf socks, however, are not suitable for windsurfing.
