Love these jackets

Bought the black one a couple of years ago and loved it so bought the blue one too. Very versatile and warm enough for spring and autumn and even cool summer evenings....Great comfortable fit on the generous side of just right ....

Keeps the wind out

Really good softshell. I took it out for a proper test on a very cold, windy day in the hills and was kept cool on the hike up and warm once I was in the hilltop conditions. The zips under the armpits do a good job of letting heat out as you warm up on the way in and all the zips are covered to stop unwanted air getting in once the wind starts blowing. I bought a large and found it perfectly comfortable with 3 layers underneath. The hood totally blocks wind from the side, and the thumbholes on the cuffs are good for making sure no wind is going to make it in at your wrists if you have gloves on. The two internal pockets are generous enough to fit an OS map, water bottle, stuff of that size. There are a couple of minor downsides: the chest pocket is quite small, you can *just* get a smartphone in there but its a squeeze. When fully zipped up, the jacket squashes your chin a bit.

A very good performing softshell

I am very pleased with this softshell jacket, especially when you factor in the price. It offers more warmth than usual softshell jackets I own. I have worn it down to 40-42F with no base layer, (I can just about get away with that), lower just need a fleece underneath. I haven't worn it in bad rain storms, only light rain and the DWR works with the rain beading off, as it should. It is a very versatile jacket, I especially like the pit zips, so if I am getting a bit hot I can vent out. Recommended

Well worth the money

This jacket is amazing for the price id highly recommend it

Great product

Nice cut, and really warm. Depending how tight you like, or what you plan on having as lower layers you may want to size up.

Perfect for hiking

I bought this as i was going to climb Snowden, it was the perfect garment for the cold rainy blustering conditions we faced. The Jacket kept me warm and the air vents made it breathable so i didn't get wet internally through sweating. The thumb hole in the sleeves were great to keep out the cold air .

Size info

Really nice jacket but had to send the first one back and get the next size up. I'm 5'11 with a 37.5 inch chest and 32 inch waist. The S was just about ok if I'd wanted it only as a mid layer, was very close fitting and could only where it over 1 thin layer. The M is much better as I can fit 3 layers under it, I wanted a windproof outer layer/lighter alternative to a coat for trekking up in the hills. S = 88-91cm / XS/S UK / 38 EU M = 92-95cm / S UK / 40 EU Would be useful if the size type was referenced on the product page as I didn't know whether I ordering a UK size or a Universal size until it had arrived. Choice of couple more colours would good

Excellent durability and value for money

After using it for over 2 yr, I thought up to write a review of my experience. What a Jacket it is, I am quite impressed with the quality and durability of this. I have used this on regular basis and mostly outdoor in cold and wet season. Shine of the jacket hasn't lost and it looks like brand new. I have used many different jacket types but this one so far best one in quality and durability as compared to price.

Trekking on a budget

Good alternative to the major brands

this Is amazing

This jacket is pretty good it kept me really warm in the snow and it’s comfy aswell so why not buy it

Please redesign softshell

I have got few this softshells during 6 years period. It was a brilliant design. Windproof and warm but yes unfortunately but. Everything has been changed. The new design have a ventilation under arms and this is a weak point. In the result the new version of this softshell is not comfortable on cold days. Please do something with that (remove this ventilation! use the same softshell material!), because a lot of people stop buy it.

Cold

Even with layers underneath I am freezing in this jacket. It's no better than a cagoule. In fact, it's worse - at least a cagoule keeps heat inside once you warm up. It looks nice, fits perfectly, and is comfortable, but I am cold!

Great activity jacket

Stylish and practical

Misleading - not windwarm - trek 900 or 500?

One person mentioned this but I reiterate that this jacket performs poorly in the wind especially the grey patch under the arm which is considerably large area. Don't understand why it is needed if it already has the open vent zip. However, I love the clean and slim cut and definitely 5/5 for smart styling but as a jacket - maybe indoor only. Also confusing labeling as Trek 900 or Windwarm 500 on the receipt.....

Excellent softshell

I spent weeks looking for a proper softshell - visited a lot of outdoor clothing stores and online retailers - I chose Decathlon product. Purpose: mid-layer underneath a waterproof jacket or as a cover layer for dry conditions. Destination: Iceland hiking adventure. Time: May. After experiencing a week of extreme winds & occasional light showers across North-West & South Iceland I can confidently say that I have been amazed that for £40 you can get such a good quality product (especially compared to much, much more expensive high-end brands). It's very comfortable, soft, fits perfect (I am slim-build), ventilation zips worked really well, reasonably sized pockets. Wearing a base layer, mid-layer and this softshell both myself and my friend (who purchased the same product) felt very comfortable when hiking around fjords. My only little concern after more than 6 months of using it is an armpit material bobbling a little bit - I appreciate that it's a different fabric to allow freedom of movements. It has no influence on my final rating though. Overall: great design, fantastic quality for the price, useful pockets, great wind protection, water repellent (I treated it with waterproofing spray - good for the UK weather).

What is a softshell?

It is a warm protective jacket that protects you from the wind and a short downpour (about 30 minutes) of light rain or snow. The fabric used is an assembly of 3 materials: a breathable and windproof micro-porous membrane sandwiched between the water-repellent outer side and the inner face composed of a comfortable and warm fleece.

Thermal comfort and windproof

The wind makes you feel considerably colder. With an outside temperature of 32°F and a 12 mph wind, the perceived temperature is 14°F. The so-called "windproof" components block this uncomfortable wind chill. Forming a barrier against the wind, they effectively reduce heat loss.

Breathability

The main fabric used throughout the jacket, except at the sides, has a windproof membrane with a breathability of 6.2 lbs/sqm for 24 h (according to the JIS 1099 A standard).

Water-repellent properties of the component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water-repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight and breathable. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface. However, this property may deteriorate with use. The water-repellent property can be reactivated by putting the jacket in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes on low heat.
