Quechua SH500 Winter Jacket - Built for Frigid Adventures (with reservations) The Quechua SH500 parka is a winter warrior, designed to tackle harsh conditions down to -10°C. Here's a breakdown of its strengths and weaknesses to help you decide if it's your next frosty friend. Warmth: ASnowy Embrace The SH500 boasts serious thermal power. The double wadding lining on the body and single layer in the arms traps heat effectively. Whether you're hiking through a blizzard or braving a city windchill, this jacket will keep you toasty. Waterproofness: Holding Back the Drizzle While the SH500 is water-resistant, it excels more in light snowfall than a heavy downpour. The 2,000mm Schmerber rating might not hold up against persistent rain. Upgrading to a higher-rated waterproof shell might be necessary for extremely wet conditions. Features: Geared for Winter Exploration The SH500 is packed with features for a comfortable adventure. The anti-blizzard hood with synthetic fur shields your face from wind and snow. The zippers and press studs are easy to use even with gloves on, and the multiple pockets keep essentials handy. The two zips at the bottom allow for greater freedom of movement when bending or sitting. Keep in Mind: Weight: Thisparka is on the heavier side. If you prioritize lightweight gear, this might not be your top pick. Temperature Rating: While rated for -10°C, consider layering for extra warmth in extremely cold conditions. Overall: The Quechua SH500 is a solid winter jacket, especially for the price. It delivers impressive warmth and decent water resistance, making it perfect for snowy hikes and cold commutes. However, if you need a jacket for heavy rain or prefer a lighter option, you might want to explore other choices.

Size large

Beautiful color, very warm but size much too large, I had to take 1 size smaller. Too bad the inside of the hood and back aren't made of fleece.

Can i be sure that my jacket is warm enough for my winter hikes?

We developed your jacket for wintry conditions: cold, rain and snow. Insulation is provided by 200 g/sqm thick wadding on the body and 150 g/sqm on the arms (synthetic component that insulates thanks to the air trapped in its fibres). We’ve added an inner flap underneath the zip to stop cold air from entering. The toggle tightening at the jacket hem is the finishing touch to ensure your jacket is comfortable down to -10°.

How does my jacket protect me from outdoor conditions?

Your jacket is designed with a waterproof outer component that keeps out water and wind. To keep you warm in winter you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The warm hood, the Velcro fastenings at the cuffs and the high collar prevent the cold from entering. Two warm pockets in extremely soft fleece protect your hands from the cold.

Waterproofness of this jacket

The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t limited to just its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. As such, this waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, i.e. 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.

Component waterproofing of this jacket

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H²0 (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket has a waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 5,000 mm H²O (Schmerbers) before washing.

A practical jacket with smart details

Lots of spaces to keep all your accessories safe and handy (tissues, keys, phone, etc.) during your hikes. Two lined pockets under a flap with a press stud fastening on the outside and a secure pocket with rip-tab fastening inside.A secure zip pocket also available on the chest.

How to preserve the technical qualities of my jacket?

A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to make water run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, warm and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products (spray or liquid) for this purpose are available in our stores.

A cold weather jacket comfortable for everyday wear.

Jacket designed with sufficient volume inside so that a warm second layer such as fleece or light down can be worn. Its classic cut is ideal for protecting you from the cold and wind during your winter hikes on all types of terrains.

How to dress properly for snow hiking?

To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle:layer 1: The high-tech base layer transfers moisture away from the body to keep your skin dry.layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards.layer 3: The jacket protects you from the outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind. The whole outfit must be breathable in order to eliminate moisture.

Product testing

All our products are tested in the field by user representatives and these tests are run in parallel to our laboratory tests. By conducting this comprehensive and demanding dual testing process, the technical features and design of our QUECHUA products is being continually improved. Your regular feedback is also taken into account to constantly improve our range.

Storage instructions

We recommend you wash your jacket with the zip closed.Always make sure that this waterproof garment is completely dry before storing it.
