These boots were co-designed with male and female backpacking enthusiasts, each of whom contributed their own expertise. For example, one of our co-designers is a podiatrist. This means that we can find solutions to the physiological requirements of your feet and guarantee your comfort and safety during treks.

Waterproofing test

Footwear waterproofing test: these boots, which have been tested in the laboratory and the field, have a breathable, waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. First, the boot is immersed in water with pressurized air inside to check that no bubbles form on the surface. Then, the boots are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water to test that the inside remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofing

During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (about 2.5 miles of walking), 4000 flexes (about 5 miles of walking) and 8000 flexes (about 10 miles of walking). Naturally, when the boot has dried after the test or in use, it regains its original waterproof rating.

Waterproof rating of the TREK 100 leather boot

These boots have passed the waterproofing test involving 8000 flexes, i.e. 10 miles of walking in water up to the mid-upper, which guarantees the best waterproofing level for boots. The waterproofing is also enhanced by the design of the boots and the low number of seams in the upper.

Lab tests

Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: - attachment of eyelets and webbing - sole assembly - toxicology - UV resistance - abrasion of the sole and upper components - accelerated aging.

Buying tips

Try on both shoes, while standing, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check 2 comfort points: the heel seating (the heel should barely rise if at all) and the front of the foot while going downhill (the toes should not touch the front of the boot). There should be no pressure points when trying them on. Feel free to walk around the store. Gradually start using you shoes during your first few hiking trips to break them in.

Care instructions

Use a brush and/or a sponge to clean the shoe and remove dirt or mud residue. Then, air dry away from a heat source. Finish by spraying the upper with a waterproof spray to maintain the water-repellent properties and prolong the lifetime of the shoe.

TREK 100 leather boots are made in the European Union, in Romania, in a factory that specialists in the production of backpacking boots. This factory exclusively uses water-based glue, without chemical solvents. Most materials are sourced in the European Union.

Product Testing

in addition to the different laboratory tests, these boots were tested in the field by backpacking enthusiasts as part of a DURABILITY MISSION TEST over 310 miles of the GR5 route and the backpacking trails of the Canary Islands.
