Hockey Stick review

For my daughter, a beginner hockey enthusiast @ 13 yrs old. she reports it feels good, nice weight and balanced.

Best stick I have ever owned!

The stick is nicely balanced, with the weight distributed evenly across the full length. Allows for a lot of power to be generated, ideal for drag flicks and hitting. It is also durable, both the composition and the design holding up very well despite being used regularly.

Decent Hockey Stick

Bought it for my 15 year old son. Says he's playing well with it. Expecting it to break soon but so far it is fine and it's been a month at least.

Hi Jonathan,

Great to hear he's playing well with the stick. Please remember that the sticks come with a 2 year guarantee so if there is a manufacturing fault we will replace it. We hope the rest of the season goes well and he enjoys it for years to come!

Great stick & an absolute bargain!

£109.99 was already great value for such a good stick but £79.99 is amazing. It took me no time at all to get used to the stick having previously been using a different brand of stick for the last 8 years. The touch is great with no loss of power which you can find with 'softer' sticks, it makes it really easy to pick up and control quickly a fast moving ball whilst on the run. It is light enough to allow quick touches and movement of the ball but still feels like you have some decent weight behind any tackling, slapping and hitting. I'd definitely recommend giving this stick a go.

Thank you for the amazing comments Cecilia! As you may have seen the price was an error and it was soon returned to £89.99 but as you say, still incredible value! We hope the rest of the season goes well for you and your team!

Good quality hockey stick

This 95% carbon hockey stick feels good. It’s powerful yet easy to control the ball with. I’d recommend this stick to players whose levels are intermediate to advanced. It’s comparable to brands costing more than twice as much.

Top stick niveau prix

super, rien a dire.…

What are hockey sticks made of?

While hockey sticks were traditionally made from wood (oak, mulberry), today most sticks (and especially the most technical) are made from composites (fiberglass, carbon fiber and Aramid fiber; Kevlar is the brand name of a type of Aramid). Sticks may also be 100% wood, in wood with fiberglass reinforcements, 100% fiberglass, in fiberglass with a fairly high carbon content (often 5%-10% Aramid when the percentage of carbon is very high).

Features and uses

Fiberglass is harder and more rigid, lightweight and abrasion resistant than wood. It will give you more power but less control and a greater feeling of hardness. Carbon is lighter and more rigid still, providing even greater power and less control if your technical skills aren't at a high level. Aramid is used in addition to carbon in the shaft to dampen vibrations. It may also be used in the heel for increased abrasion resistance.

How is a composite stick made?

A stick made of composites is made of several sheets of fiber rolled around a hollow core, which is made of 1 or more channels. The mix of components, the number of fiber layers and the core structure vary in the different sections of the stick and from one stick to another. The percentage of carbon alone does not tell you very much about a stick's features.

Choosing the right composition

Children just learning to play should opt for wooden sticks. As they improve, they can switch to a fiberglass stick and later to a stick with a reasonable percentage of carbon. Adult beginners can start out with a fiberglass stick. Adults at an intermediate or advanced level should choose a carbon percentage that corresponds to their playing style (a balance of control and power).

What is the bow on a stick?

A hockey stick is not straight but rather has a curve (called the bow). The curve varies by its maximum height (the maximum vertical space between a stick set on a flat surface and that surface) and the place where this height is at its maximum, measured from the tip of the head (called the bow position). Traditionally, sticks had a bow height of around 15 mm and a bow position around halfway up the stick.

Product testing

Our sticks are tested in the lab and in the field by our panel of testers under real playing conditions.

Storage instructions
