Second review, after 1000km

So, 1000km in review. Back wheel came completely out of true, maybe 10mm wobble side to side. Bought a spoke key, truing stand and tension meter. Non drive side needed a lot of correction, 9 spokes in total. Decided to check the wheel bearings and give the bike a once over. This is where the fun begins... The rear cup and cone bearings are 1/4" balls, 9 per side. Front are 3/16" balls, 10 per side. My rear wheel had been assembled with 8 large and 1 small ball in the non drive side. 9 large on the drive side. Whoever has put it together has put the wrong size balls in the rear bearings! Madness! I decided to strip the bike down to it's bare frame and rebuild it properly. Got some jagwire white outer brake and gear cables, new wheel bearings front and rear (front dust cap was all bent up and grease had gone everywhere, fluoro and white Fabric Hex Duo bar tape to compliment the white "Triban" stickers down the frame, and my fluoro Elite Jet bottles. With a 14 month old daughter at home I'm limited to evenings working on it, but I finally went out on it tonight and I love it again. Just need some new dust caps for the front bearings. Decathlon, I'm happy to provide photographic evidence of the bearing issue, I've kept the bearings as a funny memento. All in all, would be a fantastic bike if it wasn't assembled so badly. I've spent a good £150 on tools and many, many hours sorting it out. Luckily I like a project and the bike runs absolutely sweet as a nut now, but this sort of thing shouldn't happen! Get one guy doing front wheel bearings and one doing rear wheels, don't mix the two! Otherwise mistakes happen! Sorry for the ramble, but I had to say something.

Excellent choice.

Best value for money in road cycling.

Beautiful Bike

I had a cheap mountain bike before the TRIBAN RC120 and this bike is simply beautiful. It looks good - it's described as grey but really it's close to black. The gear changers take a day or two to get used to but it's fast and a real road bike. I'd recommend it to anyone. You can get a rack and mudguards too.

Fantastic so far

Bought this bike about two to three months ago. As had a bad experience with previous retailers (I'll leave the name out), I wanted to give it time before it starts to fall apart on me. So far not a single issue, let alone falling apart. I've taken the bike several hundred miles, I'd hate to guess the actual figure, both short sprints and 70-100 mile rides to test my endurance. Going from MTB to road was a challenge in and of itself, but with a great entry bike like this, its enjoyable. The range of gears is great. Some fairly sized jumps between the gears, but theres a gear there for every hill gradient I've come across and likely will come across. The higher gear really takes some power and can build up great speed. The shifters themselves are good, no issues yet. Its slipped maybe twice, mostly I'm putting too much through the pedals and changing badly, because I underestimated the hill or overestimated myself, so likely my fault. But it just shows it's taken a bit of punishment and still performs great. The seat is surprisingly comfortable. I was preparing myself for some serious pain, that never really came. The grips are comfortable, everything is well placed and the drops and everything are perfect for me. I'm a little over 6ft and went for a large. Havent had a professional fit, but theres no complaints after 2 hours of solid riding. My lower back or knees haven't been screaming at me yet. Certainly reached better speeds and gone further than before. It just seems more effortless. I've had hybrids but mostly just full suspension MTB with 29inchers, so the extra speed and less effort isnt unexpected in part due to light weight, good gear range and aerodynamic, but feels great nonetheless. I will be back, for another rockrider next time and hope to alternate new bikes days between road and mtb. So long as I can sufficiently destroy my current rockrider in the peaks and lakes in time for my next new bike day.

Top! Highly recommended

I've bought this bike in May 2019, I've ride it almost every day, mainly to get to work and for occasional bike ride. No one single issue so far, in almost 2 years I've only replaced tyres and brake pads. This is an amazing bike and I'll highly recommended it!

Shifters / brakes too large to reach for most

This is a really nice bike but the reach required on the gear shifters / brakes is way larger than shimano / campagnolo. My girlfriend found that she was not able to use the brakes properly - unfortunately this is not something you can adjust - replacing with a shorter stem will not fix the issue. You just have to have large hands if you want to be comfortable using the brakes on this bike in the non-drop down position. Other than that issue it's a great bike.

Triban

Just the right road bike for me.

Disappointed

Delivery is great but the bike has few problems 1. Tool gear for installation is missing some 2. After install , I found the gear shift is not working, I find bike shop and they found the wire is damaged I think is not worth 399 pound of this quality, big difference of buy it from shop, atless the staff will do a check

I absolutely adore this bike

A superb piece of kit for the money that is desperately difficult to fault.

Beginner on a Road Triban Rc120 Bike

A very stylish looking bike. I love the colour Matte Dark Grey colour. The bike was delivered in a massive box. It sat inside on a track to keep it upright. The handle bars and peddles were not fitted and so I took it to the bike shop for them to put them on and check it over. I ordered the XS size as I am 5ft 1.5inches, my feet cannot lie flat on the floor. The seat had been put to the lowest of settings and I have to go on the balls of my feet to steady the bike. I have not ridden very far, as I am getting use to the gears and the feel of bike, so I cannot comment on the performance of the bike.

GREAT BIKE

I am a fussy cyclist but for £400 you cant really complain it works. Yes its not a Italian but theres no alps to climb in England. All around good spec if you dont like it change it lol wheels and gears the only things to upgrade and easy to do so. Yes you will struggle to keep up with a Sworks carbon or a Aero tri bike but ur standard specialized or giant or cube you will keep up with a bit of steam. if you want to go faster change the cassette on the rear wheel or just get a new one. Get the bike build in store. Dont build it your self.

Heavy but comfortable

This bike is heavier and more expensive than its predecessor the Triban 500 and have a double shift two cog front gear that is bizarre but functional. Overall great ride but not the same value as it’s predecessor.

A first-class beginner's road bike

I'm writing this review after having had the bike since March 2020. I get out 3/4 times a week averaging 100-150 miles a week and I've competed a few centuries on it. It's been out in the wind, the rain, the blazing hot summer days we had this year, it's been up hill and down dale and so I feel like I can finally give it the 'warts and all' feedback that I would have appreciated when buying. The pros: it is INCREDIBLY good value for money. The main thing i've appreciated is that it inspires confidence and it's hugely enjoyable to ride. The micro shift front and rear mech shifts well, it's easy to adjust/index the gears if you've removed the wheel for cleaning etc. and my cycling mates all comment on the looks, which I have to admit was a nice surprise. I've had no issues on hills except for the steepest of gradients down in Dorset (it is on the heavier side, but on most roads you don't notice it). Also, for beginner's, it feels robust should you come off (unlike carbon bikes where you'll be straight off to the repairers). Cons: as many have said, you WILL need to swap out the tyres. They are rubbish and putting some different rubber will vastly improve your riding experience. I also swapped the saddle for a selle italia. It's not bad, but something to bear in mind once you start going out for longer rides. The bottom bracket needed replacing at the first service; I suspect it might be a weak point for the bike but they are relatively inexpensive and decathlon chelmsford did a great job. Also, some of the gear ratios are a little big, but this is something you'll only really notice after you've been riding a while. Other than that, it's been bullet proof and I would argue you simply cannot buy a better new bike than this for the money. TIP: remove the wheels when cleaning and really keep the brake pads clean; dirty pads really reduce your stopping power. I will be upgrading next year for something lighter/better (the rider has a major weight shedding upgrade thanks to this bike!), but I will keep this as a winter/training bike - I just don't think I could part with it.

Not Great, but get what you pay for I suppose.

Expected better to be honest reading the reviews. Have had a problem with it every time, I've taken it out. Wasn't assembled correctly so had to take back to have a part attached. Its just not very smooth and makes noises you don't expect to hear in a brand new bike, just the constant rattle. Bit sad really can't see it lasting for long. Really disappointed, 379 pounds gone. Would recommend a more expensive model or other make.

Just toured 160 miles

Have a nice race bike, and sold my hybrid to buy this to do light to medium touring. Did the Hadrians wall cycle route with tent, sleeping bag etc. so was fully laden and the bike was brilliant. Changed the God awful tyres to a 32c tyre and the ride was plush and fast. The range of gears was excellent. If racing I would want more refinement, but couldn't have asked for more. My friend has a £800 touring bike and I wouldn't have swapped and if I was racing the bike wouldn't lose me much time.
