ok this is good value at £9.99 but the postage cost for this is horrendous at £4.99 second class tracked.as I need reading glasses ,the compasses dial numbers could have larger numbers and maybe luminous features .but a universal compass needle that's very good. I am giving it 4 stars as of what i said earlier .I do recommend it for this price, as long as you don't have to do any night navigation
For a tenner, having this as an emergency compass is excellent value.
This compass worked fine, and I originally thought it was an excellent product for the price I paid. It took me a while to notice the error, it even made me question myself. East and West on this compass are reversed in the wrong position, this feels like a fairly fundamental flaw to me! It’s a shame because other than this it’s a great product. I thought it might be printing error on my compass, but looking at the product picture online it’s wrong there too!

Thanks for taking the time to send your feedback.
Just to clarify to you, we have not switched the W and E on the compass. We actually use the scale "Declination Scale" where reads this "W" and "E"
It's used when in some places in the world, you have some degrees different between Geographic North and Magnetic North.
You can find a lot of information online to know if you need to use it depending on where you are.
Hope this makes it a bit clearer for you now. But do not hesitate to contact us again if you still have any doubts with this Compass.

These are fantastic Compasses. Very easy to read and very robust. We use them in my Scout Group for the Cubs and younger Scouts. There is nothing on these that is unused so the baseplate is uncluttered. Another great Decathlon product.

3 steps to follow a direction from "a" to "b" or take a bearing with a compass
1 - Lay the compass down on the map. Line up the edge of the compass from point A to point B2 - Turn the rotating bezel until the lines on the baseplate line up with the longitudinal lines 3 - With the compass held nice and flat in the hand and with the arrow pointing in the direction you're walking: Turn around until the magnetic needle of the compass is lined up with the north orienting arrow! Let's go, you can move forward by following the direction of travel arrow!
Graduated 1:25,000 and 1:5,000 scales
Your compass has 3 graduations:- A 2" graduated ruler- A 1:25,000 scale- A 1:50,000 scaleIt will enable you to make measurements on your map and thus work on reading scales.
A more precise and intuitive wide needle
When designing this compass, we chose a wide needle to enable a more accurate and intuitive visual alignment between the needle and the grid lines on the map.

For greater security and peace of mind, the neck strap comes with an opening system if snatched.
Correction of the magnetic declination
You will find a declination scale within the capsule. The magnetic declination is the difference in angle between magnetic north and the geographical north on your map. Find the value of this declination in your country on the internet.

The needle of this compass is universal. It can be used anywhere around the globe!
