Very comfortable

Only had these a few days, so cannot comment on their longevity, but i have been wearing them every day and they are supremely comfortable straight from the off. They seem to be waterproof, although not properly tested, they stood up to walking through long wet grass without getting wet socks. They look good too, although the toe box material seems to be a bit oversized and looks a bit puckered when they are done up tightly.

Great Product

Size is in line with other decathlon footwear. Comfortable and seem durable and waterproofing seems good despite not looking like a 'waterproof' product. Ordered online and the packaging was pleasantly minimal - though still largely plastic.

Good pair of entry level hiking boots

Very good value for money for this pair of mid cut hiking shoes. Have a pair of more expensive pair from another brand and both brands perform similarly in terms of waterproof. But the other pair is around 3 times the price. Comfort wise, it will take time to break in and i think a good insole is needed. Hence minus 1 star from the rating.

Crosscontact sole

The sole design is the product of a lengthy research process conducted in our laboratories, which has been combined with a special rubber formulation to optimize grip and traction. Given the variety of different needs, we always seek the best compromise between muddy off-road trails (like a forest path) and mineral trails (like a coastal path).

To reduce our environmental impact

On these boots, we’ve chosen components that are more respectful of the environment : - Upper (front of the shoe, flap and top of the shoe): 52% recycled polyester and 48% polyamide dope dye (dye using less water) - flap and collar lining: 100% recycled polyester - laces and loops in 100% recycled PES - hygiene insole : 85% recycled polyurethane foam and 100% polyester lining - outer sole: 30% recycled rubber

How do you choose the right shoe size

Try on both shoes standing up and wearing the socks worn for hiking. Try several models, several sizes if necessary. Check 2 comfort points: the heel seating and the front of the foot on a downward slope. Avoid any pressure points when fitting. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Break in your boots gradually during their first hikes to adapt them to your foot.

Designed for use on country footpaths

Our hiking footwear is designed for use on country footpaths. Indeed, we choose the components of the sole and upper of our boots and test them to ensure that they are ideally suited to hiking on loose trails (e.g. forest paths made of soil) or rocky trails (e.g. rocky coastal paths). Road use (asphalt) can accelerate the wear of your shoes and cause discomfort. They are not suitable for mountain walking.

Waterproofing test

The membrane-equipped footwear is laboratory and field tested to ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and is half immersed in water to test that the inside remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofing

During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Naturally, after this test or in actual use, the boot regains its original waterproofing once dry.

How to maintain your boots’ waterproofing feature?

We recommend spraying your boots several times a year with waterproof spray to restore its original water-repellent properties and prevent stains on the outside of the boot.

Laboratory testing

Laboratory tests are conducted to test the following elements: tearing of the eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated aging. We use these tests to improve the quality of our products and prevent the premature wear of our hiking boots.

The shoe/sock combination has an important role.

Many different factors cause blisters during hikes: rubbing, a crease in the sock, moisture, a shoe size that is too small or too big, etc. It is therefore important choose the right size and to have socks made of the right material for your hiking boots.

How do you choose the size of your hiking socks

You need to choose the right sock size for your foot to avoid any additional creasing in the sock: either because the sock is too big and therefore there is too much fabric around your foot, or because the sock is too small and is pulled toward the inside of the shoe.

How do you choose the fabric of your hiking socks

Moisture must be effectively managed when hiking: We sweat, it’s bound to happen. If your boot is breathable, it will eliminate the moisture of your perspiration: so you also have to choose a light and breathable sock If your shoe is largely waterproof, to protect you from the humidity of the rain, you will not make the same selection: it is preferable to buy socks that will absorb perspiration, to keep the moisture as far away as possible from your foot.

Which pair of socks fits the nh500 mid wp shoe?

These shoes offer a little breathability but not enough to wick away all the moisture from your perspiration. Then select NH500 high socks: they contain moisture-absorbing cotton and have a reverse terry-knit construction under the sock that wicks moisture away from your foot. And they are high enough to protect your ankle from the shoe. It is an excellent combination to reduce the chance of blisters.

Our hiking boots are guaranteed for 2 years. Our commitment? To offer you long-lasting products that you can use on all your country walks. Because the products we love the most are those that have had great experiences and still have lots of life in them!

What is the origin of our leather

We use a leather called ‘nubuck’. It has a soft, silky feel. The leather used in these boots comes from cows. We do not kill animals to obtain this leather: we only use waste from the food industry.

How to maintain your leather boots

After your hikes, we advise you to: - Dry your boots away from any heat sources - Brush the dry leather vigorously with a stiff brush to remove mud and dirt - Use a crepe brush or nubuck rubber to remove stains - If the stains persist, clean with a brush and a little warm water - Leave to dry - Brush again with a stiff brush - Use spray-on waterproofing: this will make the leather shine and brighten the color.

Product testing

It is in France, at the foot of the Mont Blanc, that our design team imagined, thought up and designed the Quechua products. We test them in the field with other campers to assure ourselves of their comfort and resistance. We go to regions like the Jura and Auvergne to experience different terrains and weather conditions. These moments involve a lot of discussions. These are invaluable for getting your feedback and preparing our future collections!
