This is a nice jacket, not wholly waterproof in a big downpour, but comfortably stretchy, warm, and pretty good at keeping the wind out. Sleeves are long enough, and there is much to like about it. I happen to think it looks pretty good, but that's me. BUT if you expect to sell these for UK roads, the reflectives on the rear are on the side nearest the gutter where they are almost useless. As it's a dark coloured jacket (mine is navy), it is not at all reassuring to have a safety feature which doesn't do its job. For me, that means the jacket is pretty much reserved for daylight; therefore useless in autumn and winter; therefore its appeal is very much diminished indeed. How hard would it have been to make a few of these in UK-relevant design? I would have thought if the UK market is worth appealing to at all, it is worth appealing to with effective product. I simply don't feel safe in this jacket in twilight or a cloudburst on British roads.
Good fit. Well designed. Very comfortable, used in light showers and kept dry and warm also its a very good windproof jacket. I've worn the jacket in chilly conditions with just a long sleeves base layer and was warm throughout a two hour ride... I recommend this jacket and its a good price...
Coat looks really nice but I can't try it out as it's so tiny it's almost silly. Large size ordered but this isn't even a medium - it's probably ten cm off closing at the chest and is short too, quite a bit above the waistline. Even if it's supposed to be skin tight for cycling maybe, it's just too small for anyone not really thin.
Had two of these and both were as waterproof as a teabag. Ok for a very short cycle in light rain but anything else and it just couldn't cope, and more often than not I was soaked through. Also yellow reflective details would be better on a black jacket for daytime use.
This jacket is great for riding when raining or rain expected. It's light and considerering its not a fleece top I found it warm when riding. This could due to all the seams being air tight when zipped up. Really good fit arm length is great to keep arms warm. Worth it.
purchased this jacket the weekend , found the xl to big at 48inch chest , it was like a tent . so tryed the large and the chest on that was 42 inch . i dont know where you get your sizes but a 6 inch different between sizes is pretty dire . will be returning and will shop else where .
Very good waterproofing. Does get a bit warm but ideal for autumn or winter with layering. Looks like a much more expensive jacket. Very satisfied.
I'm size M and ordered a size M but that was far too small so returned for size L but still too small, now waiting for an XL!!. Also the reflective pattern on the jacket is designed for European roads not UK as they are on the wrong side of the jacket (would it have been too much to print reflective pattern on both sides Decathlon especially the arms for signalling????)
Hello. Thank you for leaving a review of the RC500 rain jacket. Sizing can vary from brand to brand, but it's very strange to go have to go up two sizes. Can I ask if you double checked the size guide on the product page? An external review by road.cc for this jacket has come back to say that the sizing is true to the guide. For the location of the reflective strips, this feedback has been sent to the Product Designer to take in to consideration.

A fabric's waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to the pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (test based on ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The RC500 jacket's waterproofing stats: 8,000 mm before washing, 5,000 mm after 5 washes.
It's not just the fabric that's important for the product's waterproofing; the construction is just as big a deal. The seams on the RC500 are sealed and we have chosen to use the waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zipper.
To determine a fabric's breathability we measure its evaporative resistance or RET (based on standard ISO11092). The lower its resistance, the more it lets water vapor produced by the body escape, therefore the more breathable it is. • RET <6: Extremely breathable, suitable for most intense workouts • RET 6 to 12: Very breathable, designed for moderate exercise • RET 12 to 20: Moderately breathable, not enough for exercise • RET >20: little breathability, unsuitable for exercise
The RC500 jacket's fabric has a membrane. The membrane is a type of very thin micro-perforated plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric both waterproof and breathable. It is also very supple, lighter, more durable and more breathable than a fabric with a coating. A coating is like a layer of paint on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof. It costs less than a membrane, and requires a lining to protect it.
As you know, if the road is wet, it can be very unpleasant getting your shorts covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this problem, we've equipped the RC500 jacket with a retractable flap at the base of the back. It can be discreetly folded into the back of the jacket, and is very practical when needed. It goes without saying that adding a mudguard to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.
CLASSIC FIT: Fitted and comfortable. This timeless cut is perfect for your longer bike rides, whether in the saddle or having a break. This fit is tighter than our "Relaxed Fit," but not as tight as our "Pro Fit."
Our team of designers and cycling enthusiasts is based in Lille, in northern France, not far from Flanders and its legendary cycling routes. To get this rainproof jacket just right, we tested it all over Flanders throughout the winter: we believe that only by subjecting our products to real world conditions, like the ones you experience on your bike, can we continuously improve them.
