Just what you need for cold or wet days

I was able to ride with this jacket in 2 degree Celsius weather, and I was able to stay warm with only a simple base layer underneath. I descended some steep hills close to 50kmh and felt no wind entering through the jacket. In short, this is a great cold weather jacket. For wet rides, I LOVE the extendable rear flap which keeps water off of your shorts. It also has a bright orange color for visibility. Not a drop of water entered through the jacket and the tight fit around the sleeves and waist help to keep water out as well. I live in the US, so I used the sizing chart which meant I sized up by one. I wear a large in the US and an extra large in European sizes . The XL fits me perfectly and I have longer arms, but the length is still great, even when stretched on the bike. Follow the Decathlon sizing chart, as it is very very accurate. I also love the style and quality. The jacket has reflective striping and looks really sharp. I feel quite slick wearing this around. It's even good as a hiking windbreaker. Overall, you will be very pleased with this jacket. I highly recommend it.

Great value

An ideal, lightweight and waterproof jacket. Perfect.

Nice quality and true to size

I bought a large thinking it would be a very tight fitting item but it was actually true to size so I need the medium. Seems great quality and nice features. Good value based on the price

Very happy great purchase

I own 3 or 4 "waterproof" cycling jackets all from renowned cycling brands. None of them even come close to this jacket. Firstly I've worn it through some torrential downpours on rides over 4 hours long and its kept me dryish. More importantly with this jacket though is the windproofing, because its a breathable membrane jacket with taped seams it seems to keep the wind off and doesnt develop moisture inside like other jackets I use with a plasticy feel inside. Good large rear pocket is a great addition and the chest pocket accommodates a phone in waterproof holder easily. Drop down flap is a welcome addition when there is a lot of surface water. All in all a very good jacket. Very pleased will be buying a second one. Those moaning seem to be in their 60s.

Lightweight waterproof jacket

Needed to get XL normally I go for large i am 6ft 2 slim build the arm length is perfect for my long arms I’ve only used it once in the rain for an hour on a steady ride and I was dry underneath with just a thin cycling shirt on

Reflectives in wrong place

This is a nice jacket, not wholly waterproof in a big downpour, but comfortably stretchy, warm, and pretty good at keeping the wind out. Sleeves are long enough, and there is much to like about it. I happen to think it looks pretty good, but that's me. BUT if you expect to sell these for UK roads, the reflectives on the rear are on the side nearest the gutter where they are almost useless. As it's a dark coloured jacket (mine is navy), it is not at all reassuring to have a safety feature which doesn't do its job. For me, that means the jacket is pretty much reserved for daylight; therefore useless in autumn and winter; therefore its appeal is very much diminished indeed. How hard would it have been to make a few of these in UK-relevant design? I would have thought if the UK market is worth appealing to at all, it is worth appealing to with effective product. I simply don't feel safe in this jacket in twilight or a cloudburst on British roads.

Rain proof jacket

Good fit. Well designed. Very comfortable, used in light showers and kept dry and warm also its a very good windproof jacket. I've worn the jacket in chilly conditions with just a long sleeves base layer and was warm throughout a two hour ride... I recommend this jacket and its a good price...

Tiniest "large" I've ever purchased.

Coat looks really nice but I can't try it out as it's so tiny it's almost silly. Large size ordered but this isn't even a medium - it's probably ten cm off closing at the chest and is short too, quite a bit above the waistline. Even if it's supposed to be skin tight for cycling maybe, it's just too small for anyone not really thin.

Had two of these and both were as waterproof as a teabag. Ok for a very short cycle in light rain but anything else and it just couldn't cope, and more often than not I was soaked through. Also yellow reflective details would be better on a black jacket for daytime use.

Great jacket

This jacket is great for riding when raining or rain expected. It's light and considerering its not a fleece top I found it warm when riding. This could due to all the seams being air tight when zipped up. Really good fit arm length is great to keep arms warm. Worth it.

Additional Product Information

Main fabric

  • 100% Polyester cationic

  • 100% Polyester cationic

Fabric waterproofing

A fabric's waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to the pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (test based on ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The RC500 jacket's waterproofing stats: 8,000 mm before washing, 5,000 mm after 5 washes.

Jacket waterproofing

It's not just the fabric that's important for the product's waterproofing; the construction is just as big a deal. The seams on the RC500 are sealed and we have chosen to use the waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zipper.

Fabric breathability (ret)

To determine a fabric's breathability we measure its evaporative resistance or RET (based on standard ISO11092). The lower its resistance, the more it lets water vapor produced by the body escape, therefore the more breathable it is. • RET <6: Extremely breathable, suitable for most intense workouts • RET 6 to 12: Very breathable, designed for moderate exercise • RET 12 to 20: Moderately breathable, not enough for exercise • RET >20: little breathability, unsuitable for exercise

Membrane or coating?

The RC500 jacket's fabric has a membrane. The membrane is a type of very thin micro-perforated plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric both waterproof and breathable. It is also very supple, lighter, more durable and more breathable than a fabric with a coating. A coating is like a layer of paint on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof. It costs less than a membrane, and requires a lining to protect it.

Fold-up flap

As you know, if the road is wet, it can be very unpleasant getting your shorts covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this problem, we've equipped the RC500 jacket with a retractable flap at the base of the back. It can be discreetly folded into the back of the jacket, and is very practical when needed. It goes without saying that adding a mudguard to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.

CLASSIC FIT: Fitted and comfortable. This timeless cut is perfect for your longer bike rides, whether in the saddle or having a break. This fit is tighter than our "Relaxed Fit," but not as tight as our "Pro Fit."

Product testing

Our team of designers and cycling enthusiasts is based in Lille, in northern France, not far from Flanders and its legendary cycling routes. To get this rainproof jacket just right, we tested it all over Flanders throughout the winter: we believe that only by subjecting our products to real world conditions, like the ones you experience on your bike, can we continuously improve them.
