Perfect Jacket

I bought this cycling jacket for my husband who bikes to work. He's worn it 5x and loves it. It's been 40-45 °F in the mornings. Its kept him warm and was wind proof. He's a size Large regularly, but bought him an XL due to size recommendations, Would recommend sizing up. It's also easily packable.

Just what you need for cold or wet days

I was able to ride with this jacket in 2 degree Celsius weather, and I was able to stay warm with only a simple base layer underneath. I descended some steep hills close to 50kmh and felt no wind entering through the jacket. In short, this is a great cold weather jacket. For wet rides, I LOVE the extendable rear flap which keeps water off of your shorts. It also has a bright orange color for visibility. Not a drop of water entered through the jacket and the tight fit around the sleeves and waist help to keep water out as well. I live in the US, so I used the sizing chart which meant I sized up by one. I wear a large in the US and an extra large in European sizes . The XL fits me perfectly and I have longer arms, but the length is still great, even when stretched on the bike. Follow the Decathlon sizing chart, as it is very very accurate. I also love the style and quality. The jacket has reflective striping and looks really sharp. I feel quite slick wearing this around. It's even good as a hiking windbreaker. Overall, you will be very pleased with this jacket. I highly recommend it.

Keeps me dry

Very comfortable keeps me dry in rain on the small size so I’d get one size up from your usual

Not waterproof, or even showerproof

Bought in June and been in two rain showers in all that time. Got wet through both times, especially on the arms. Will be seeking refund.

Stylish but not waterproof, and barely showerproof

Bought this jacket in June this year. It felt great to wear and looks good to. Because of the dry weather I've not had wear it for much other than wind-proofing. In July I had to use it in a heavy rain shower and it got saturated quickly through to the inside. This morning (25th August) it got wet again and within 20 minutes was saturated through to the inside, particularly on the lower arms. I still have my receipt and will be attempting to get a refund. My advice would be don't believe the claims to be 'waterproof' in the product description, or even 'shower proof' in the title.

Well-fitting, smart cycling jacket

I'm very pleased with the jacket. It fits very well and has a large zip pocket at the back.

Fits and breathes well

Being quite long limbed I struggle with with appropriately fitting cycling attire which I find either too short or baggy for my fit. This top fits really well, is very comfy and breathes well so is very versatile. Will definitely buy more in this range.

Fantastic jacket for cold/wet weather

A bit too warm for summer weather, but is great for 8 months of the year. Perfect for cold/wet winter and autumn days, used this comfortably between -2C and 15C. I've worn this riding for hours in heavy rain and there's little to no ingress and doesn't let moisture build up inside. The pocket at the back is useful and the front pocket is small but big enough for keys/money/a small smartphone. The fabric feels more like a softshell jacket, doesn't rustle when you move or in the wind, and stretches/fits comfortably around cuffs/waist etc. I'm 178cm and 85kg and the L is a good close fit The fold-out flap on the back if you're still punishing yourself by not using mudguards, and it's bright orange will help visibility to traffic on the road (just make sure it doesn't cover your rear light!). There's a few bits of reflective detailing too that help that bit more on the road. I've reproofed it three times (after being covered in mud/road muck etc) using Granger's wash and reproof and it seems to have worked great with the fabric. it tends to bead until the jacket is completely soaked but even then a minimal amount of moisture enters.

Great jacket naff zipp

Had 2 of these jackets in 8 months and if you layer undereath it's great in all conditions. However the zipper bottom is made of cheap nasty plastic so has snapped twice. If the zipper held longer than 4 months it would be 5 stars

Additional Product Information

Composition

Main fabric: 100.0% Polyester ; Yoke: 100.0% Polyester ; Coating: 100.0% Polyurethane ; Membrane/coating: 100.0% Polyurethane

Fabric waterproofing

A fabric's waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to the pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (test based on ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The RC500 jacket's waterproofing stats: 8,000 mm before washing, 5,000 mm after 5 washes.

Jacket waterproofing

It's not just the fabric that's important for the product's waterproofing; the construction is just as big a deal. The seams on the RC500 are sealed and we have chosen to use the waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zipper.

Fabric breathability (ret)

To determine a fabric's breathability we measure its evaporative resistance or RET (based on standard ISO11092). The lower its resistance, the more it lets water vapor produced by the body escape, therefore the more breathable it is. •RET <6: Extremely breathable, suitable for most intense workouts•RET 6 to 12: Very breathable, designed for moderate exercise•RET 12 to 20: Moderately breathable, not enough for exercise•RET >20: little breathability, unsuitable for exercise

Membrane or coating?

The RC500 jacket's fabric has a membrane. The membrane is a type of very thin micro-perforated plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric both waterproof and breathable. It is also very supple, lighter, more durable and more breathable than a fabric with a coating.A coating is like a layer of paint on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof. It costs less than a membrane, and requires a lining to protect it.

Fold-up flap

As you know, if the road is wet, it can be very unpleasant getting your shorts covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this problem, we've equipped the RC500 jacket with a retractable flap at the base of the back. It can be discreetly folded into the back of the jacket, and is very practical when needed. It goes without saying that adding a mudguard to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.

Cut

CLASSIC FIT: Fitted and comfortable. This timeless cut is perfect for your longer bike rides, whether in the saddle or having a break. This fit is tighter than our ”Relaxed Fit,” but not as tight as our ”Pro Fit.”

Product testing

Our team of designers and cycling enthusiasts is based in Lille, in northern France, not far from Flanders and its legendary cycling routes. To get this rainproof jacket just right, we tested it all over Flanders throughout the winter: we believe that only by subjecting our products to real world conditions, like the ones you experience on your bike, can we continuously improve them.
