Footwear waterproofness testing
Tested in laboratory and in use, these shoes, equipped with a Waterproof membrane, will ensure optimal impermeability and breathability. After being plunged into water under air pressure, we check for the absence of bubbles on the surface of the shoe. Then they are placed, half immersed, on a mechanical arm to simulate walking, to check that the inside of the shoe is completely dry.
3 levels of waterproofness
When tested for waterproofness, we test 3 levels of waterproofness:
2000 flexions (approximately 2.8 mi walk)
4000 flexions (approximately 4.2 mi walk)
8000 flexions (approximately 9.2 mi walk).
Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofness once dry.
Shoe waterproofing level
The TREK 700 shoe has been tested for waterproofness and validated for 8000 flexions, or a 9.2 mi walk, in water reaching the mid-point of the upper.
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements:
- torn hooks and eyelets
-bonding of the sole
-abrasion of sole and components of the upper
Use a brush and/or a sponge to clean the shoe and remove dirt or mud residue.
Then, air-dry away from a heat source.
Finish with a nourishing cream to keep good leather flexibility and extend the lifespan of the shoe.
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking.
Try on several models or sizes if necessary.
Check two comfort points: the heel seating (the heel does not or hardly slips) and the front of the foot while going downhill (the toes do not touch the front of the shoe).
Avoid all pressure points when trying them on.
Feel free to walk around the store.
Gradually start using you shoes during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
All our shoes undergo use and comfort tests carried out by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our Field Test Missions team the product manager up with people who aren't affiliated with FORCLAZ, to test, improve and validate our products.
