Waterproofing test

Footwear waterproofing test: these boots, which have been tested in the laboratory and field, have a breathable waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. First, the boot is immersed in water while the air pressure inside is increased to check that no bubbles form on the surface. They are half-immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the boot remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofing

During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Naturally, after this test or in use, the boot regains its original waterproofing once dry.

Field tests

The comfort of all our shoes is tested when they are tried on and used by typical users under the real-life conditions you will encounter in use. Our Mission Tests bring together the product manager with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and approve the products.

Laboratory testing

Other laboratory tests are also conducted to pass the following: tear resistance of the eyelets and straps, resistance of adhesives, toxicology, UV resistance, resistance to abrasion of the outsole and upper components, accelerated aging.

What shoe size should you choose?

For hiking, don't hesitate to try one size above your usual size to provide maximum comfort in descents and to prevent your toes from touching the front of the boot. Advice: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the boot.

Buying tips

Try on both boots while standing, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check the following two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going downhill. There should be no pressure points when you try them on. Feel free to walk around the store. Gradually wear in your shoes over the course of a few hikes so that they conform to your feet.

Product Testing

All our models are tested by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. We believe that testing in real life scenarios is the only way to continuously improve the technical suitability and design of our QUECHUA products.
