Thank you for reviewing the Tribord softshell. You are absolutely correct in that this product is designed and advertised to be water repellent but not waterproof, but it seems it held up well in a rain storm regardless!

Nice product for the price - bought for my husband
My son will be using it for outdoor training with gun dogs. He said it was FABULOUS in the rain!
This is a fantastic jacket that does everything you need for a 1/3 of the price of other branded product - great buy !!
Tuto bundu má syn už druhou, byl s ní spokojený, tak když mu byla malá, tak jsme koupili opět tu samou. Jediný problém byl ve velikosti, velikost S a M má úzká ramena. Jinak je bunda praktická.
Die Jacke trägt sich gut beim Segeln und hält gut trocken. Leider haken die Reißverschlüsse nachdem sich dort Salz verkrustet hatte. Das ist aber kein spezielles Problem dieser Jacke. Verbesserungswürdiges Manko ist das keine Schlaufen zum aufhängen der Jacke eingenäht sind. Immer an der Kaputze aufhängen doer einen Bügel mitnehmen ist nicht das Optimum. Bei einer Modellüberarbeitung bitte eine Schlaufe innen und außen anbringen, damit man die Jacke schnell an jedem Haken oder auch nur einem Nagel aufhängen kann

Super Übergangsjacke.

Die Jacke ist eigentlich zum Segeln. Ich verwende sie zum Wandern im Frühling, Herbst oder in Kombination mit einem Fließ auch im Winter. Außerdem trage ich sie beim Radfahren zur Arbeit. Durch das dichte Gewebe hält sie auch einen stärkeren Regen für 20 - 30 Minuten ab. Gleichzeitig kommt wirklich kein Wind rein, da die Nähte und Reißverschlüsse alle versiegelt sind. Die Jacke hat ein leichtes flauschiges Futter innen, so dass sie sich auch direkt auf der Haut gut trägt, was bei anderen Softshells oft nicht gegeben ist. Ich hatte vorher eine 240 € Mammut Softshell und würde sechs dieser Jacken jederzeit vorziehen. Nachteile: Für den Sommer zu warm. Für schwere Belastung zu warm. Radfahren geht, aber beim Joggen würde man darin zur warm werden. Die Jacke ist außerdem relativ schwer.

What is softshell?
Softshell is a high-tech fabric combining 3 materials: a breathable and windproof microporous membrane sandwiched between the water repellent outer layer and the warm and comfortable fleece inner layer. This technical material provides thermal comfort, breathability, lightness and ease of movement thanks to the warm stretch fabric that also provides protection against 30 minutes of fine rain.
What does water-repellent mean?
Not to be confused with waterproof!It is a quality achieved by applying a hydrophobic, water-repellent treatment to a fabric. This process prevents water from sticking to the fabric's surface, so less water is absorbed. When movement is added to the equation, water glides over the fabric. This means the fabric is water repellent. Thanks to water repellent properties, water does not soak into the outer fabric; therefore the jacket remains light, does not retain moisture and is quicker to dry.
What is breathability and the ret index?
A fabric's breathability is its ability to disperse water vapor produced by the body (perspiration). It can be measured using the RET index (Resistance to Evaporative Transfer). The RET is a resistance index; the lower the value, the greater the breathability of the garment. RET between 6 and 12: very breathable; RET between 12 and 20: breathable; RET above 20: not breathable. Our products are very breathable, with a RET between 6.2 and 12.
How important is windproofing?
Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body significantly whether you are active or at rest. According to the windchill model, which measures how the air temperature feels when factoring in the wind and cold: when the air temperature is 41°F and the wind speed is 19 mph, the apparent temperature will be 32°F. If the air temperature is 32°F and wind speed is 20 mph, the temperature felt will be 21°F. The materials used in our products help to counter the windchill effect.
What is the hood like?
The hood of this product has been designed so as not to get in your way as you sail. The positioning of its seams are such that the hood follows the movements of your head. Its adjustment point at the top lets you adjust it to the right height. Its additional adjustment points at the collar let you modify the width to help stop the wind and cold from getting in. The hood has been tested to be worn with and without a waterproof jacket on top.
Water repellency maintenance:
To refresh the water repellency of the fabric and optimize the performance of your garment throughout its life, you can use a rewaterproofing spray or a water repellency reactivating liquid. The waterproofing of the Race softshell jacket lasts 5 washes. After that, we recommend reactivating the waterproofing treatment to ensure performance.
