Couldn't take heavy rain

Used it on a 10 miles hike(Mailbox new - Washington state) for almost 6 hours in rain: Pros: 1. No need to wear rain pant, it protects you well below knee. 2. Sleeves are perfect and comfortable. 3. I have a 30 Liter backpack and it fits well. 4. Openings on side to access pockets is really helpful. I kept using to check my phone. 5. Feels light and easy to wear. 4. No Smell. 5. Easily packable in the given pouch. Cons: 1. It didn't keep me dry well, my outer layer was little wet. 2. Difficult to wear on a solo hike, had to take help of another hiker when i had a bagpack on back and tried to wear it. Would love to use it for a light rain or emergency purpose. Wont recommend for long hours and heavy rain.

It needs redesigning

Rain slides from the poncho into your trousers/legs then shoes.

It needs some improvements

Too short, it sticks to your legs so you get the rain sliding down into your trousers and shoes...

Dry but hot.

The hiking poncho is certainly water proof! It did a great job on a recent 3 day hike in NZ. My only criticism is it gets very hot inside, especially if you're hiking up hill. There's no ventilation with this version, so you stay dry from the rain but get a little damp from sweat..

Works well but pricey for what it is.

4 stars because of the poor price-value proposition.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for reviewing our Hiking and Mountain trekking rain cape.

We're glad that you enjoy our product.

It has been designed specifically for hikers to protect them and their belongings during casual hikes.

The innovative design explains a pricier item.

You'll still be able to find entry prices on rain ponchos with our 100 Waterproof fishing poncho for example.

We hope we could provide you with an adequate solution and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Not waterproof, very disappointed!

Used the poncho for my 96 mile walk, had a backpack on along with tent and sleeping bag. Day 1 had the poncho on as began to rain! Bag was absolutely soaked along with tent and sleeping bag! Very disappointed! Would not recommend!

Great poncho

Great poncho to put on over your clothes when the rain hits. The poncho drys quickly and is lightweight and easy to carry around. Would recommend.

Best buy excellent.

This is the best buy I have had, Excellent quality, great for over a rucksack and pocket entries so you can reach your garments underneath. Draw string round the hood, good length to the knee I'm 5 foot 6 and went just past knee for me. Actual sleeves too. Reflective strip on back. Waterproof pouch to store. Highly recommend.

My own personal tent!

This is not a bad thing. I bought an XL to make sure it covered down to my knees. There is nothing worse than rain dripping down my bum. It's not just been used for hiking. It's now my goto for when I go to watch football.

Additional recommended products

To complement your outfit, a pair of waterproof pants or gaiters is recommended to protect your lower legs perfectly.

Component waterproofing

We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Components with a 2000 mm rating can withstand the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours).

Waterproofing of the garment

This garment has been shower-tested in 60 liters/sqm/hour of water for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.

Component breathability

To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the resistance, the more water vapor generated by the body in physical activity can escape through the fabric. Hence, the more breathable it is. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric RET > 20 = little or no breathability. This cape has an RET = 12.

Water-repellent property of the component

The water-repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. In this way, the fabric does not soak up water and therefore remains lightweight, breathable and warm. The water-repellent property is obtained by applying a treatment to the outer surface of the fabric. This treatment needs to be restored throughout the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes). All of Quechua's ponchos and capes have a water-repellent treatment.

A score for comparing the products' environmental impact

The product's environmental footprint is calculated over its entire lifespan using various indicators. An overall score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, pants, backpacks, etc.) with each other. Care

Use a waterproof spray or wash-in product To restore the water-repellent property of the fabric and optimize the performance of your garment throughout its lifetime.
