I wore this in the Nevis range in winter conditions with light wind and rain. The jacket is not waterproof. I aas left cold and wet.
This review relates to sizing, not the quality of the product which is generally very good for the price. Almost every item of Simond clothing I have ordered has had to be returned and exchanged for a different size. And there is no consistency; sometimes too big, sometimes too small. This particular item was ordered in a medium (based on another jacket already purchased). It was like wearing a tarp. I'm 171cm. Ordered the small, as a replacement and this is too short across the back - it is hunched up to my armpits and the sleeves rise above the wrists when arms are raised (useless for climbing). Yet the stomach area is baggy and the length is like wearing a short skirt.

Had this jacket for less than six months and in no way would I consider it waterproof nor breathable. I called the shop and was told I needed to nikwax it every four weeks including a retreatment to ensure it stays waterproof - it was never waterproof from the beginning and no different after a retreatment of it... did I mention it was less than six months old??
Really bad, after one use in the woods it get dirty of mesh and mud and I could wash it even tried two times. Really disappointed.
I'm sorry that the Men's Light Mountaineering Jacket did not meet you expectations. Would you be able give me more detail as to how you tried to wash the jacket and what the results were?
Jackets made for mountaineering are best washed with special liquids such as Nikwax Tech Wash which can be found here:

Best quality and great price
Comfy. Found jacket to be lacking in breathability, got damp on inside from not too heavy perspiration. Could be better.
This is a great attempt at a quality lightweight jacket. Unfortunately the hood doesn’t stand up to any significant level of wind. The goggles that grip the cords for tightening loosen off and you have to keep adjusting them as wind bellows in the hood! Also the hem with the cord on the front blocks your vision if your not wearing a helmet. Smaller hem at front of hood and a more effective lock on the cords would sort the problem and this would be an awesome jacket for the price! Will have to return.

Bezproblémový výrobek, doporučuji
Bundu mam 3 roky, ale není každodenne nošená. Sedí hezky a nosim ji rád. Proti větru je to dobrá ochrana, ale co se vody týká, snese jen mrholení. Mirný déšť a za půl hodiny jste mokří. Kapuce je velmi otravná, pokud nemáte helmu.

Bundu ve velikosti pánské S nosí 14-ti letý syn, vysoký 164cm, velmi štíhlý. Velikost odpovídá-S je na štíhlé hubeňoury. Je výborně zpracovaná, do kapucy se opravdu vejde helma (lyžařská i lezecká), bude dobře fungovat jako zimní skialpová bunda, v létě i v zimě oceňujeme signální barvy. Příjemná je nízká hmotnost, dobře dostupné kapsy, když má člověk batoh a neskutečná je ta cena. Velká spokojenost
Dlouho jsem hledal lehkou membranovou bundu jako treti vrstvu. Pak jsem narazil na toto. S prihlednutim na cenu jsem dosti vahal ale nakonec jsem zkusil. Lehounka membranovka (xl), povedene zipy, vychytavky, neskutecna prodysnost (na membranovou bundu). Puvodne jsem mel vyhlidnutou konkurenci v hodnote okolo 9tis ale tohle me uchvatilo! Rozhodne doporucuji!
Die Jacke macht einen guten Eindruck und ist auch leicht stretchig, aber mir passt sie im Bereich Hals/Schultern überhaupt nicht. Das Führt dazu, dass sie im Hals unangenehm drückt/reibt. Die Passform anderer decathlon Jacken finde ich besser, viel besser jedoch sind für mich mit breiten Schultern die Bergans Jacken geschnitten.
Softshell plus diese Jacke darüber und Du hast immer warm, wenn Du Dich bewegst. Ideal für Winterspaziergang, Walking etc.
sehr guter Regenschutz
Sehr gutes tragekomfort etwas hackelig am Reißverschluss.Ich würde sie wieder kaufen.

Product's waterproofing
The jacket's waterproof was tested in a rain shower with 26 gallons of water / sqm / hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a heavy mountain downpour.
Fabric waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to a water column, in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure resistance, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a 2000 mm waterproof rating can withstand 2000 mm of water pressure (which is roughly equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours). With waterproofing greater than 10,000 mm, the Alpinism Light jacket therefore offers a very high level of waterproofing.
Fabric breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporate resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more moisture, generated by an active body, is evaporated, and therefore the higher the fabric's breathability.We consider that if: - RET < 9 = highly breathable fabric - 9 < RET < 12 = breathable fabric- RET > 12 = slightly or not breathable fabricThe Alpinism Light jacket's fabric has an RET of 8.
Hood
The jacket's hood size makes it compatible with a mountaineering helmet. Its height and depth are adjustable to suit your needs. A semi-rigid visor offers better forehead and eye protection. The high collar provides protection for the lower part of your face.
Pocket and zipper
Outer shell: 2 large pockets that fasten with taped zippers. The pockets are positioned on chest, making it easier to get access to them when wearing a harness. Inner jacket: 1 zip pocket2-way front zipper allowing opening from the bottom and a quick access to harness tie-in loop. The zipper pulls are easy to use with gloves.
Product care
Machine wash at 86°F. Use liquid detergent without fabric conditioner. Close zippers and adjust cuffs before putting in machine. Restore water repellency using a suitable treatment with every wash. A whole range of specially made waterproof and breathable fabric care products are available in our Decathlon stores.
