Awesome Bike

I took my rc500 for my first spin. I did 8 miles. I was very impressed on the handling as well as its maneuvering. This is first bike with brake shifters....wow was I missing out. The gears shift effortless, however the deraileur needs a slight adjustment. I had a $300 eurobike before and its like night and day operation wise. I am extremely happy so far with my new bike.

Little pricy but worth every penny

My last bike purchased was a Schwinn 21 speed Mountain Bike from Dicks sporting good 20 years ago price tag $150. Well compare the 2 bikes the difference is night and day. Its fascinating that how much bicycle technology has advance in 20 years. This RC500 is my first ever road bike. It rides buttery smooth, light weight and the seat is surprisingly comfortable. I am 6 Ft. and size L fits me perfectly. I am falling in love with it and want to ride it every day. Now the not so good part. The package box was damaged during shipping resulting a deep scuff mark on the fork and the back seat post reflective piece was also cracked and fell apart. I wrote and replied to the email customer.service@decathlon.com included the damaged pictures. Its been a week and still haven't heard from Decathlon. It is very disappointing that purchasing a brand new bike and it came with deep scuff on the fork. Such a eye sore to look at. I would hope Decathlon would make it right by sending me the replacement parts (fork and reflective plastic)to replace the damaged. The verdict: 5 Stars for the RC500. 1 Star for Decathlon customer service

Go for something better.

This is an alright bike for what it used to cost (about $850 US), but at it's current $1000 it's a thoroughly underwhelming purchase. The two serious downsides to this ride are that the wheels and tires are a terrible combination - the tires are so tight as to require jacks to be reseated after a flat change, and that the brakes overheat and squeal after about an hour of good use. The frame is quite comfortable, but the seat is a display-room item, nothing that I would keep on. Included pedals are a nice touch, but superfluous - you'll want to upgrade right away to something clipless. The set-up from Decathlon is reliably amateur - I'd take this into a bike shop for a once-over (especially if it's being shipped) if you're actually planning on riding it for any length or with any regularity. AT $1000 USD, you're better off investing in something from a more reliably decent manufacturer - the Trek Domane line starts right around here, as does the Specialized Allez line, and while neither of those intro-level rides are quite as flashy as the RC-500, they are reliable bikes from serious manufacturers without the sort of rookie problems that got passed over in the design of this product.

An Awesome Entry Level Road Bike

I bought this bike during COVID because I couldn't stand going running anymore, and it is a DREAM. I previously shopped frequently for hiking gear at Decathlon while living in Germany, so I was thrilled to see that they've since expanded distribution into the United States. Lucky us- they have great products! I had ridden others' road bikes before and was commuting for a while on an upright cruiser, so I knew some things about road bikes but am no expert. This was a top recommendation on a lot of websites as I looked for an entry level bike that's not absolute bottom of the barrel, and it has exceeded my expectations. The disc brakes are sharp and effective, it's got the right number of gears for doing hills or flat stuff, and it is a great base model from which you can add more expensive custom parts if you want. I ended up switching out the pedals that came with it for clipless a few weeks ago and got a bike fit and it's glorious- I love this bike! The color is amazing and looks very modern, and while the seat feels a little long for a female rider I haven't had problems with it and kept it even through my professional fit. One note I'll make is that if you order this online and it gets shipped to you, it's a good idea to take it in to a shop for a tune-up once you have it assembled- shipping did a bit of a number on my derailleur but it was easily fixed by a mechanic and made a big difference in my riding experience. It's light enough that it feels like a major upgrade from my cruiser (to be expected) and I can comfortably carry it up and down to my 3rd floor walk up apartment. I'm 5' 7" with longer legs and the small just barely fits me- I had the seat up to the highest possible position and had to get a new stem in my fitting to get just a couple more cm. However, it's much easier to make a slightly small bike big enough with different posts, etc. versus trying to make a slightly too-big bike smaller- just be aware that if you're on the edge of a size, the stock seat or stem might not be exactly right for you. Overall, it's a wonderful bike- I've recommended it to lots of friends looking to get into cycling and wholeheartedly can do so here as well.

Great bike

I am not an experience biker but I do love to ride. The Triban 500 fits my needs and beyond. When I read reviews, I often read about a stiff ride. After riding the Triban 500 I now know what this means. I have greater control and bike feels like it is part of me. The adjustments were almost right on. I only get slippage to another cog when I go to lowest gear. The shifting is quiet and smooth. I did not have to make any adjustments with the breaks. They work well and I feel safe. The seat is comfortable and with some minor adjustments I have not experienced numbness. The frame came with a scrape but that did not distract from the awesome color. The front rim had some damage as though it was damaged in a crash or someone tried desperately to remove the tire. But I was extremely happy with the customer service I received and because of the service I received, I purchased a bike for my wife and I have made other equipment purchases from Decathlon. I highly recommend the Decathlon Triban 500.

Excellent price quality ratio - typical Decathlon

Bought this bike as a commute bike in February in San Francisco. With the pandemic, I ended up using it for exercise mostly. 6 months later, I've done >1500 miles with it and couldn't be happier. For the price paid, you just won't find better. Go read Bikeradar's review on it! It handles great, the gear ratio is perfect for the Bay Area, the Sora groupset is actually not half bad. The only gripe I have with the bike is that the mechanical disk breaks are a little bit time consuming to maintain (re-adjust as they wear off). But they actually work amazingly well, giving you confidence in the downhills. The geometry is more on the endurance side, which is perfect for what I want. I'm 6'1 and ride the XL. Biggest ride I've done with it is ~120 miles. It did not complain :) I strongly recommend it to anyone trying to dip their toes into cycling without shelling >$3000 for a carbon bike.

Excellent road bike

The Triban RC 500 is an excellent versatile bike with great value for money. The stiff frame, comfortable saddle, riding position and 28mm tires make it a great bike for commute and weekend rides. The groupset does the job even though it is not as precise as a 105. It's not the lightest bike but totally fine to go after strong uphill. I ordered it online and it did not take me more than 20 min to mount it, disc brakes / wheel required some basic tuning.

Great bargain priced all-rounder

Excellent road bike. Handles well in all conditions. Changed pedals for clipless and will eventually change to wider tyres with better wheels - not urgent though. International reviews were really good and it lives up to expectation. Excellent value for money.

Chain defaulted in 6 rides, don’t waste the $

Bought the bike 6 weeks ago and had a net total of 6 rides and the bikes gear shift started to get less smoother by the ride and eventually ended up giving a jerk every 2.5 pedal cycles. Decathlon didn’t cover this in the guarantee and had to pay for the change as well spent half a day waiting for the bike to be fixed. I’d suggest buy a bike from elsewhere for 1000$ you can definitely do much better.

The RC500 is the best bike for the price. I don't think I have ever purchased a high-quality bike for a better price. Something to note, I had the bike mechanics adjust the lower gears and the chain, which was a bit loose, causing the gears to make noise when on the lowest gear. They modified it on the spot and informed me that the road bike had included bike servicing for the year, which is handy. In addition, I had them add SDP-compatible pedals with cleats ($55) and bike shoes ($60), removing the original pedals. I am in the six-foot height range, and the x-large version was a perfect fit. The bike is lightweight, thanks to the carbon-bladed fork and a light frame. The road bike was super affordable and functional. I am pleased with my purchase. I'm not sure if I mentioned how fast this bike is, but it is a machine for entry-level to advanced riders. It's perfect when riding uphill on an incline. I would recommend the RC500 road bike. On a side note, Decathalon has very affordable prices for quality athletic gear and products.

Not a Ferrari but a Mustang…

We bought this bike for our son who wanted a road bike, but isn’t interested in racing or multi sport. It seems well built, the geometry makes it a comfortable and stable ride and the Shimano Sora group set is solid and reliable. Not a race bike, but a sporty looking fitness machine.

Quality:(

It has not been over a month since I’ve bought the bike, and there are some issues every other day. Just a day or two ago the spoke came off and the spoke nut got into the tyre, luckily nothing fatal happened. I’m really upset that this happened, would have expected better from such a brand, further the bike technician at decathlon also told me the spokes tension is all over the place. I should have gone with other brands might have got money’s worth

Great entry level roaf bike

The handle car could be wider, and the bike is a little bit heavier than other Al bike, but overall a great choice.
