Product Customer Reviews

I was deciding between this bike and the Triban RC520 and when I tried them both in store, I immediately knew that the Van Rysel felt much better. However, the Van Rysel does feel more racy and aggressive than the Triban RC520. The Van Rysel also has all the Shimano 105 components which is not something you see with this price. Other bikes that claim to be Shimano 105 really only have the shifters that are Shimano 105 and the rest are different cheaper brands. I think that this bike is definitely worth the money. It’s fast and rides really smooth. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the reach is quite long for the size (I have size small). With a reach of 385, other bikes in similar sizes that are “endurance” have reaches of 370-375ish. Just be careful that this bike feels more like a race bike than an endurance bike. You will feel stretched out because of the long reach. Nevertheless, all things considered, this bike is really good for the price and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast bike.
This bike has done 6,000 km in the last 6-8 months and I could not be happier with it. The ride quality is great and very smooth, it handles like the best of them, gears are responsive and precise, braking power is good (no need for disc brakes here). On top of being comfortable and well suited for long distances (I've done 200km+ rides with no discomfort), this bike is FAST! I can't see better value out there at this price point. If you want to use this bike for endurance / ultra-distance, especially considering how rough/variable tarmac can be in the UK, I would recommend you replace the tires for something a little tougher such as Michelin Pro 4 Endurance, or Continental Grand Prix 4 Season. A huge kudos to the Decathlon / Van Rysel team for designing a great bike offering immense value. I hope to see more Van Rysel bikes on the road in years to come, as the brand becomes more recognised and the cycling community acknowledges the value and quality of these bikes.
I purposely chose an endurance bike to compensate for some existing injuries. I expected comfort and no speed. The comfort was a given but the speed was a real surprise. The bike can hold its own when it comes to speed, very fast. Gears are great 105 all round . I’ve been looking for areas of the bike to upgrade and it is a real struggle. The only negative to the bike is the frame weight , everything else ie wheels , seat post , saddle are very good and are not to heavy either . All in all I would really recommend this bike. However In hindsight I wish I went for carbon frame version purely for weight .
I bought this bike online on 1st February and click collected it the next day. Later, when I looked the bike over at home, I realised that the bike had been fitted with cheaper, heavier Fulcrum Racing 900 wheels and not with the Racing 6 wheels specified
I'm very very happy with this bike even though it has given me two punchers and very little play on the rear wheel' which i suspect is an easy fix. The bike is smooth and seems to feel fast. I would say its worth the price, and i would definitely purchase another one as a Christmas present, best bike ive ridden to date.
This is a second review after 3 months and 1000 miles. I'm even more impressed now than I was initially. Gears and brakes have bedded in nicely and all the cable tensions are settled and set. About a month in I noticed a little lateral play on the rear wheel and adjusted the hub bearing -Fulcrum have a clever Allen key collar to directly move the bearings and this took 30 seconds -with the wheel still on the bike! The 105 gear changes are phenomenal -I can easily make simultaneous front and rear changes if I want to (not usually recommended)- and I've not dropped a chain or fluffed a change in 60 hours of riding hilly roads. The compact front and 34 rear are a Godsend for those days where (my) energy levels have been misjudged or the road rears to 15%+. the 50/11 can still push at 40mph. The wheels have stayed perfectly true over lots of bumpy back road use and inspire confidence on fast descents. No creaking or noises, other than a click as a minutely proud rim joint goes under the front brake pad, but that'll wear down in time (I don't brake much if I can help it, old habit!). Comfort is remarkable. I changed from Lithion 2 tyres to Lithion 3, but the 2 were probably faster, though 3 have more puncture protection. I also use latex tubes with them. Now I ride 70psi front, 80 psi rear (85kg all up). I've gone with Shimano PD-RS500 pedals. One thing I noticed about the EDR geometry is that it is very very close to the VR Ultra in stack, reach and wheelbase, so not an overly upright ride but racier than than you might expect. Comparing dimensions in mm for size L shows EDR (Ultra): Stack 575 (572), Reach 396 (401), Wheelbase 1000.5 (1001). That gives a stack/reach for the EDR of 1.45. The dropped seat stay makes full clip-on mudguards a bit hard to fid so I've chosen a seat post mounted (and cheap!) Zeal Swan for billy-no-mates rides. Neoprene overshoes rather than a front guard so far (although the fork , unlike the rear triangle, does have mounting eyelets). Clearances under the 105 callipers are tight though, and there's no chain stay bridge in this frame. The wide down tube does guard the wheel spray much more than a narrow steel tube ever did -just need to keep the gear cable cleaned afterwards... I really think this bike is a bit of an undiscovered gem tucked away in the middle of the range with an unassuming name. If I were looking to upgrade I'd maybe look at what wheels were on offer, say the next Fulcrums up like the Ultegra version has, but that's not because I'm aware of any shortcomings, just open to possibilities. Contact points, gears and brakes are ideal for me as they are. 100miles in, the finish is holding up and the bike still looks new. Even happier customer :o)
Light, looks really smart, gears are set up perfectly, arrived early, excellent advice given in the shop (Thurrock).... My first road bike was worth ÂŁ600. This one for an extra ÂŁ400 was worth every penny.
This is a replacement for the Triban Rc 520 which was a good bike let down by poor wheel quality. The Triban 520 got very good reviews but after only 2 days on this bike i can easily say this is a major step up, grt ride position, comfort(grt seat), more responsive, faster(just broke 12 of my segment times on Strava today). if Bike radar and road.cc gave rc 520 grt reviews then im wondering what this will get. big shout out to Brogan and her team at Braehead Glasgow for grt customer service!
This has been my first foray into road bikes since a Raleigh R100 22 years ago. The difference is incredible. The frame is very well designed, comfortable and incredibly light. When you put pressure on the pedals you can feel the energy transferring through the frame and it can really shift. The seat is comfortable and the handlebars and really well padded and makes for a smooth ride. Gears are what you'd expect from Shimano 105 but it's hard to find a bike this price with this sort of equipment. Since receipt of the bike I've been out four times and covered 240 km. I've particularly enjoyed the gearing when, at the end of ride, I have to face the final hill to my house. All round - I think that the bike is excellent and would highly recommend it.
It's a beautiful bike, amazing spec for the price, but the bike was very dissappointingly set up. The stem wasn't properly secured to the forks, (not the bars, which you have to do yourself). The front mech higher limit and cable tension was way off. The rear mech is also noisy and shifting terribly, not sure exactly what is wrong there, that's a job for tomorrow. I guess they have to cut corners somewhere at this price!
This is my first road bike after a few years hardtail MTBing so I’ve nothing to compare to but: I’m impressed - groupset performs flawlessly and was well set up / indexed. I was worried I would find rim brakes to be poor compared to disks on my MTB but they are surprisingly good and I’m happy with them. The wheels are very good and the bike tracks / handles as if it is on rails - I was expecting a harsh and jittery ride ( as I’m used to fat tyres and suspension ) but it’s really comfy.. The bike was bought from store which was the correct move they set it up in store and after my first ride I took it back for a slightly shorter stem (100mm instead of 110mm - and slightly raked back) - it was changed without any quibble or cost I don’t think I’d get the same service mail order So early days but I’m happy
Chose this over the RC520 for the full 105 groupset, lighter frame and better wheel/tyre combo. Easily justifies the ÂŁ100 difference - even for an amateur like me. Bought the bike for casual and longer distance rides, having done over 100 miles after 10 days of ownership. It feels solid, light, and after test driving a bike with the Tiagra groupset, the 105 felt smoother & more precise, with the additional gear being a bonus. Bike looks great (much better than the Triban range), and whilst the matte paint on the bike is easily marked, it seems to withstand regular use just fine. This is not apparent in the photos, but the fork has a light pain scheme akin to the Triban range. This is very subtle. With a similarly specked bike from the go-to brands being around ÂŁ1.5k, the specs, looks, and competitive price make it easy to recommend.
Had this bike a replacement of the RC520, which I didn't get along very well. I justified the extra ÂŁ100 price tag by having better wheels (Cosmic) and a full-105 group-set and an overall lighter bike by about a kilo. It's fast and nimble and feels like it's a solid one piece. It really makes riding up-hill effortless and gives a lot of confidence when heading down a steep hill. I wish I could post some photos as the stock photos do not do it justice at all. I bought it based on its specification and thought I will be compromising on the looks, but when it arrived I realised what a good looking bike it is. Would highly recommend and I am considering making a youtube video about this bike as it is the cheapest full 105 bike money can buy and the most premium bike you can own for under ÂŁ1000, if not under ÂŁ1500. P.S. Very comfortable saddle and geometry too!
Po 2 500 km stále plně funkčnà a skvělé kolo.
