Very disappointed

After two months, I washed my down jacket at 30°, as recommended. When it came out of the machine, I put it outside to dry on a hanger. What was my surprise to see the interior trim falling back onto the lower part. Then wait for a gesture from you.??

I recommend

The jacket proved useful in winter in the Tatra Mountains. Warm and light. The only thing is that the sleeves get dirty. Maybe it's worth adding a second color in this place so that it won't be so visible... I bought yellow...

Great

Very nice cut, warm, light. Not very water-repellent but I have to use it as rain gear when it rains and it's perfect Compact side is super practical to put in the backpack

Very disapointed

I had seen very good reviews for this down jacket however after only 5 days it started to lose its feathers through the seams! Considering the price I find it a bit of a shame to already lose a lot of feathers in several places! I went to the store and they told me that it was normal given the down jacket and that there was nothing they could do for me. I usually buy from Decathlon but here I am frankly disappointed with the after-sales service.

icon-circle-checkmark verified purchase

Very small sizing. Decathlon also sent it without the bag shown, so it's not as easy to travel with. It's very thin, I would want a thicker jacket if going below 0 degrees. Fine for just running around town. It feels very thin and fragile, I'm not sure how long it will last.

How warm is this padded jacket?

This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. The comfort temperature is +5°C in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.- Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.- Ultra-compressible.

Inflating power of down/feather filling

The fill power is a measure of the down's thermal insulation capacity and its potential to ”trap” air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). Down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this down jacket with its 85% down and 15% feathers filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 800 CUIN or more (international standard).

What does the rds certification mean?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organisation to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only feathers from geese and ducks raised for their meat and slaughtered before down and feathers are collected.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating (PFC-free) its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it will retain its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle. 2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

A snag? this is how to repair your down jacket

A tear on a padded jacket can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch so the tear doesn’t get any bigger and the feathers escape. Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Some in-store Decathlon workshops offer a repair service to mend your padded jacket using a heat-bonded patch.

Product testing

All our down jackets are laboratory tested in 5 km/h winds and worn as a 3rd layer on a thermal mannequin (over a long sleeved T-shirt and fleece). Their level of thermal insulation is measured on a scale of 1 to 5, so that you can make the choice that best suits your use.
