hiking shoes

excellent value for money, good product for approaching trekking

good shoes but 2 big problems

used regularly for over 2 years I have 2 major problems with this pair of shoes: 1. the laces are constantly coming undone which is dangerous because the foot is less and less held as the hike progresses. 2. during static periods (standing lookout, waiting in line) pain in the heels is felt even though I have orthopedic soles designed for these shoes. it's a shame because I find that they grip well (I even tried them in Lapland at -2° on black ice and a few cm of snow) and overall they are still in good condition after 2 and a half years. they are also perfect for not creating pain in the ankles (no pressure on them) after the look could have been nicer but that's secondary.

not waterproof

disappointed ++++ not waterproof at all. bought in October 23 I have been wearing them since September because I had an identical pair that I was still using. for 2 days I have been wearing them to walk in the grass in the morning my feet are soaked my problem is that the year of warranty to which I am entitled has passed you could see that they have not really been used...but the date has passed. this is the 4th pair of MH500 it is the first one that takes on water!

excellent product

I absolutely do not regret buying the product, I use it almost daily. They are really waterproof and hold well on the foot. Good grip on the ground. Walking with them is very pleasant.

Comfortable, lightweight and versatile shoes

They are light, comfortable and versatile, I recommend them. I use them on coastal paths, in the forest, on sand paths and on some sections of road.

They are good shoes for work, my wife is happy with these shoes

Soaked within minutes

Shortly after starting a stage of the Camino de Santiago, it was raining and they got completely soaked, the socks felt as if they had been dipped in a bucket of water and their feet were wrinkled when they reached their destination. You should be ashamed of yourself for selling this product as a waterproof product.

I didn't have better shoes

Maximum comfort, foot as in cotton, for easy hiking, as well as normal wear in the transition period.

Good for its purpose

This is comfortable and provides good protection and stability.

Review after 1 year of use

Very disappointed with the quality/price ratio. A year later, they are no longer waterproof at all, the soles are coming off. This is my third pair (including a high one) and I will not buy them again. Given the price, I should not have to buy them every year.

What is your hiking frequency and intensity?

We have classified our products in terms of performance and features for 3 levels of Mountain Walking:- occasional: about 10 hikes per year of about 3 to 4 hours in length, covering less than 10km and less than 700m in elevation gain.- Regular: about 20 outings per year. 4 to 6 hours, 10 to 20 km, 700 to 1200m of elevation gain per outing.- Intensive: more than 20 times a year. More than 6 hours, more than 20 km, 1200 to 2000m of elevation gain per outing.

Sole with grip

The grip of our soles is certified. To be awarded certification, the boots must pass laboratory tests to assess the grip rate on different surfaces (Smooth, Rugged, Dry, Wet). To validate these tests, we assess the quality of our soles in the field, in the mountains, by a panel of representative testers over 500 km

Waterproofing test

In a laboratory, the shoe is immersed in water to mid-height on a mechanical arm that flexes to simulates a number of steps. With this test we can determine a time and number of km that the boot can walk while staying dry. Then we confirm in the field or under the rain, that the shoe meets its promises.

Making waterproofing last longer

To keep your feet dry, we advise you to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter to protect the top of your boots and prevent water, pebbles and sand from getting in.We advise re-waterproofing your boots twice a year using a re-waterproofing agent (search for ‘waterproofing’ on our Decathlon website) which will help you restore the original water-repellent qualities and help prevent stains on the outside.

Evofit concept

This boot is fitted with the EVOFIT concept. With its stretch materials and specific design for the area of the foot where the joints are located, EVOFIT technology allows the boot to perfectly fit the shape of your foot.

Product design: our expertise

Our Quechua global design centre is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie. This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc) and outdoor sports enthusiasts. A great asset for designing your mountain walking products and providing you with all our expertise.

Which size should i select?

The most important thing is to try on several sizes and styles of boots to find the one most suited to you! You can take a size above your usual one to prevent the toes from bumping into the toe box when going downhill, provided the foot is properly supported to avoid friction.Tip: keep your toenails short and, before a long descent, check that your lacing is tight enough to prevent your foot from sliding forwards inside the boot.

Buying tips / how do you try your boots on?

Some Decathlon stores have a test route.1. Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. 2. Tighten the laces, taking care to correctly balance the tightening.3. Check two points:- the heel does not come up before the shoe when you walk uphill.- the foot does not slide and the toes do not press against the front when going downhill.4. Try on several sizes and models.Break them in gradually to adapt them to your foot.

How do you avoid blisters?

Blisters generally develop when the skin is weakened by friction. In order to prevent them from occurring, we recommend the following: - Choose a shoe in your size.- Wear suitable socks- Tie and tighten your shoes properly.- Make sure you tighten or loosen your laces accordingly while wearing your shoes, especially before starting a climb or a descent. - Wear your shoes on a short trip for the first use.

Product testing

All our boots are tested for initial comfort and comfort in use by hikers from outside Decathlon under the same conditions you find in use. The aim is to test, develop and confirm the product in the most objective way possible, so you can get maximum enjoyment out of hiking!
