Lovely to hear, thank you for your review.

Passed the Mom Test!

My mother, who lives in Newfoundland (where it can be quite rainy at times), was on the hunt for a good jacket that was waterproof, breathable and fit well. We took her to Decathlon over Christmas and showed her this jacket - she fell in love with it. Back home on the "Rock", she's had the opportunity to test it out and can say with confidence that it has passed the Mom test! Now she's wondering if/when Decathlon will open in Newfoundland :)

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for taking the time to write us such a glowing review! We truly appreciate it.

We are very proud to know that our hiking jacket passed the Mom test, it is one valuable evaluation!

Concerning our presence in Newfoundland, even if we can't promise an arrival in the near future, Decathlon is now providing home delivery across Canada. Your mom should be able to order most of our products online on and get them shipped directly to her house.

We hope we could provide you with adequate solutions and remain available to answer any further questions or concerns you might have.

Totally worth it

This is my new go to jacket. I know I can be confident when leaving on a hike even if the weather is uncertain. It fits super well, I usually have a problem with sleeves that are too short but it is not the case with this jacket. It is also light to pack and very comfortable to wear. I love it!

Not at all waterproof

I bought this waterproof jacket for a holiday that I knew the weather was going to be rainy and didn’t want to get wet and cold. I also bought a cheaper jacket for my husband as they didn’t have the more waterproof one in his size. He was completely dry and I was soaking wet. Cannot recommend this product at all.

Amazing coat (good for pear shaped people)

I bought this coat for my partner after her much more expensive well known main stream brand leaked like a sieve. Whilst my mens version of this jacket ran circles around it. She loves her one, and the womens is shaped well for women and her body shape. keeps her very dry, it breathes extremely well.

Excellent value.

After walking all day in the rain I was the only one in the group who was dry. Still love the Lake District

Fits well and keeps me dry

Good quality material and nice design, feminine. Yet allowing for ventilation and space for extra layers and for movement, especially if you're carrying a backpack.

Great features for price

Really great jacket . My only improvement would be a double ended main zip and a wired peak on the hood. Keeps you dry in torrential rain. Breathable aided by the double ended pit zips

Very waterproof, good fit and cut

This coat is REALLY waterproof, well made and a lovely feminine cut. Very pleased with it. I also love the vibrant colour (red), so many ladies clothes are purple or pink and insipid. Lots of pockets, adjustable hood, arms are a good length. Armpit zips are a nice touch. Fantastic!!

Not waterproof

I love the cut of this jacket, the sleeves are long enough for me (long arms), the hood's the perfect size and doesn't blow off in the wind. Lots of pockets and space. Unfortunately it's not waterproof, particularly the black fabric on the arms (I have the grey/black colourway). It's fine in a light drizzle, but any more than that the rain soaks right through. I endured a very miserable music festival recently where I was soaking wet for the whole day, whereas others in their cheap £15 ponchos were kept dry. I expected a lot more for a jacket that was £89. I shall be returning the jacket and hope it can be refunded or exchanged

This jacket has a fitted cut. Its stretchy fabric allows you greater freedom of movement when you're hiking. A warm layer, such as a fleece or a light padded jacket can be worn underneath. You can choose your usual size, or a size above if you don't want it to be worn fitted.

Quick-adjusting, 3d hood

One adjustment, just one movement to adjust the hood! 3-point adjustment system (height, depth and volume) thanks to 1 single elastic drawstring + tightening. Deep, enveloping hood for excellent comfort. Visor for maximum face protection.

Construction of the jacket / 3 layers

This jacket is constructed with 3 layers, providing the best protection on the market: the membrane is glued between the inner layer and the outer layer of the component (hence the name of 3-layer component). The membrane is a kind of very thin Polyurethane film that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It is protected by a knit, and has the advantage of being softer, lighter, more durable and often more breathable than a coating.

Water-resistance test

We measure the water-resistance of the fabric and the water-resistance of the entire jacket. The water-resistance of this fabric is 15,000 mm Schmerber: this means that it withstands the pressure exerted by 15,000 mm of water column (ISO standard test). This jacket has also been validated by a shower test reproducing conditions of a storm / 11.8" of rain in 3 hours. For the most curious, all the details are here:

How to restore the jacket's water-repellency?

The water-repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents your jacket from soaking up water, and keeps it lightweight and breathable. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface. However, this property may deteriorate with use. All the steps for restoring water-repellent properties are described below:

Breathability test

The breathability of a material is its capacity to wick away the water vapor generated by perspiration. During intense effort, it is, therefore, essential to wear very breathable clothing so you do not stay wet. Breathability is measured by the RET, the resistance of a fabric to the evacuation of moisture. The lower this coefficient, the more breathable the fabric is: RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: fabric with low breathability

Breathability of the garment

In addition to using breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zippers, air vents, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of all its mountain walking jackets and overpants. These ventilation systems can be used to regulate the temperature inside the garment as well as eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during physical activity.

Component with a hydrophilic membrane

The component of your MH900 jacket consists of a membrane. A membrane like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. A membrane has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than a coating. The coating is like a layer of paint applied on the underside of the fabric. It is often less costly than a membrane and requires a lining for protection.

3-layer component

The component of the MH900 jacket is a so-called "3 layer" component. Indeed, the membrane is bonded between the inner layer and the outer layer of the component (hence the term 3-layer component). This construction helps the membrane last longer and enhances the component's performance. In the case of 2-layer components, the membrane is bonded to the outer fabric only, while the protective inner lining is free. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome.

Water-repellent property of the component

A fabric’s water-repellent property is what makes water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from absorbing water, thereby keeping it lightweight, breathable and warm. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every 3 washes). All the Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.

Additional recommended products

Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproofing liquid to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimize performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

Score for comparing the products' environmental impact
