Forclaz Is Becoming Simond: What This Means for Your Trekking Gear

Decathlon is retiring the Forclaz brand name, but not the products you love. Trekking gear once labeled Forclaz will now carry the Simond name — a legendary brand rooted in mountain sports. Same quality, same mission, new label. Discover what’s changing and what’s not.

Forclaz Is Becoming Simond: What This Means for Your Trekking Gear

What is happening to the Forclaz brand?

You’ve probably heard the news: we’re saying goodbye to the Forclaz brand name.
But here’s the good part — its spirit and products are here to stay.

In March 2024, Decathlon updated its brand portfolio. This change is driven by our desire to make our product offer clearer and more accessible for every outdoor enthusiast.

Forclaz, our dedicated trekking brand, is one of the brands evolving.
Its logo, which is gradually being phased out, will be replaced by that of Simond, a historic name in mountain sports.

Forclaz: A Brand for Adventurers

Since 2016, Forclaz has been designing durable and responsible trekking equipment, offering everything from backpacks and technical clothing to footwear and backpacking gear.

Based in Passy at the foot of Mont Blanc, the brand’s mission has always been to accompany your adventures farther, longer, and with greater purpose.

Forclaz shares the core values of trekking: humility, solidarity, commitment, vitality, and responsibility. Since its creation, the Forclaz team has brought together a rich mix of expertise and passion, united by a love for trekking and a deep commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

While the Forclaz name may be changing, the people, passion, and purpose behind it remain.
You will continue to find the same high-quality products — now under a new name: Simond.

Simond: Committed to the Mountains

Simond is no newcomer. This legendary brand has deep roots in the world of mountaineering and climbing. Founded in Chamonix in 1860, Simond pioneered the manufacture of mountaineering equipment. Its gear has been part of some of the sport’s most iconic moments:

1950: First ascent of Annapurna by Maurice Herzog
1953: First ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay
1973: First ascent of the Drus North East Couloir by Walter Cecchinel

Since joining Decathlon in 2008, Simond has expanded its expertise beyond climbing to offer a complete range of mountain gear, while maintaining its elite standards of performance and safety.

Simond now serves as our expert brand for mountain sports, focused on developing high-performance gear for passionate climbers, mountaineers, and trekkers.

Under the Simond name, you will now find top-quality equipment for:

• Climbing
• Mountaineering
• Trekking

Why We Are Making This Change: A Simpler, Stronger Offer

At Decathlon, we are committed to designing innovative and sustainable products, co-created alongside real sportspeople, for all skill levels.

To better reflect this commitment and help you navigate our offer, we have simplified our brand architecture.

Merging Forclaz into Simond is part of this overall strategy.
It brings all expert mountain sports gear under a single, trusted brand. This move builds on Simond’s heritage while continuing to offer affordable and high-performance products for all adventurers.

Can You Still Find Forclaz Products in Our Stores?

Absolutely.

Trekking products will continue to be available, now under the Simond name.
So whether you are tackling a rugged section of the Appalachian Trail or venturing into alpine terrain, your favorite gear is still here — just with a new label.

The Story Continues

Simond has restructured and refocused its mission to deliver a complete mountain experience. The expert teams from both brands now work closely together, continuing to innovate, design, and develop the gear that gets you to the summit and back with confidence.
