Excellent backpack. It is versatile and roomy, despite its relatively small size.

Nice walking day rucksack

Firstly I loved the colour of this bag, and although compact, it has plenty of room inside for a day walk and isn’t cumbersome to carry. I like the outer pocket for carrying a drinks bottle, keeps it secure so it won’t fall out if running or bending over.

Fabulous but redesigned?

In late 2023, I purchased the NH500 16l backpack and found it to be an exceptionally good everyday use pack because of the multitude of pockets and the overall 16/17 l capacity. This also makes it a great personal carry bag for the budget airlines. I was so impressed that some weeks later, I bought the larger 23l version, which is equally as good but a bit hit & miss for personal carry due to the larger size depending upon the fastideoness of the check-in crew. In Jan 2025, I decided to buy another 16l also in grey but was very surprised to see that 3 pockets have disappeared when compared to my original. Another reviewer (Chloe) mentioned this but seemed to think that it only applied to the yellow version. Well, my grey one also has these 3 handy little pockets missing and although not a deal btraker I'm confused as to why Decathlon would have removed them, particularly the zipper pocket within the 1st folding flap which also had the key holder within it (as it made key storage much safer) and the little zipper adjacent to the bottle holder. I'm presuming that this is a redesign across the 16l range, presumably to shave off a bit of cost.

Great backpack

We bought this as a carry on bag for my son when going on holiday. It was perfect for the plane. He now uses it for school and the different compartments are great to separate his books, snacks and water.

Lovely little pack! But was surprised

Such a lovely little pack, delighted with the look and the colour (chose the yellow one), as well as the nice padded shoulder straps and back which is what I was mostly looking for. The 16L is pretty perfect for what I want it for in a convenient day-to-day city bag, and has a great variety of pockets for organisation, so I was quite chuffed. However, be aware that the yellow version is missing 3 pockets that the other colours have; the zipper pocket behind the key holder inside the middle-front pocket, the secret zipper pocket within the left bottle pocket, and the power bank pocket inside the main pocket, as well as the cable hole for the power bank (said pocket so many times, so sorry). I was surprised when mine didn't have these, and wondered if it was maybe a redesign that hadn't been updated on the website yet, but when looking closer at the online pictures, I realise that these pockets are in fact lacking on the yellow version, but not any of the other colours? I find this so strange, I assumed they were all the exact same bag, but seems like the yellow one specifically has had some pockets removed for some reason. I can live without them, but just very confused haha. Punishment for people who love yellow! Anyway, still a nice bag, just thought it might be worth letting others know. (there was also a bit of fabric fraying on one of the shoulder straps, but doesn't seem to hurt the strength of the strap. Still a decent bag for the low price)

Great Backpack.

I bought this specifically to use as a carry on bag for air travel. It is perfect. Plenty of compartments, well made and the perfect size. Really can’t fault it. It’s stylish, functional and just what I needed.

Best EDC backpack I could ask for

As a smaller person I like a smaller bag so I dont look like a ninja turtle, but usually end up sacrificing organisation and pockets. But this bag has a plethora of useful pockets and features, especially for travel, and for this price, what more could you want? Some of my favourite features are not only rare to find on even more expensive bags. Sunglasses pocket at the top of the bag, huge and secure water bottle pockets with a hidden pocket unde one side (for wallet/passport), main pocket has extra little security tag for the zips to go past to give you some extra piece of mind in crowded places. Also sturdy enough to hold up to being gnawed on to try and get at my food when some coatis stole my bag in mexico. Only things i can think i would like to add to a near perfect bag would be a kangaroo pouch on the bottom for dirty shoes/wet towels/swimwear. I would also swap the bike light mount for a more sturdy gear loop to confidently hang something from the back.

Itchy straps

Nice heavy duty fabric, lots of pockets for storage but a little small. The foam padding on the back seemed very bulky and the straps were squeaky and itchy on my arms so I am returning.

A good urban backpack

I bought it for easy riding on the bus from home to downtown and it's doing the job nicely. The size and the weight are good, the design is quiet functional and things are easy to pick or pack. Only one thing missing may be: a few buckles or strings to attach extra bits (rain poncho, Kway, etc.)

Hi

Perfect size for theme parks

compact size, love the 2 full size water bottle holders, fabric means bottle don't pop out if you bend over. The only negative I found was that the insde material of the staps was a bit scratchy, if you wear tank tops the material rubs your collar area, had to only wear full t-shirts. Was perfect for use in DIsney parks as holds everything and is small enough to take onto rides and comfortable to carry.

ALMOST THERE

I've spent years searching for the ultimate office/hiking backpack hybrid. A rucksack that is completely multifunctional. This one is almost there, but falls short on several details- 1. The front small side zip pocket is on the wrong side for me to access easily, is it too much to ask to put zip access on both sides? Or better yet, a horizontal zip across the front. For me, this pocket is obsolete. 2. The second zip pocket, that has multiple pen/phone compartments, is too deep and the access to it is too high. Which means I have to take the rucksack off completely to get anything out of it, rather than swinging it down from my shoulder. 3. For some reason, the elasticated drinks holders on either side of the rucksack go all the way to the top. Which is ridiculous. It means it's a real struggle to get my water bottle out. It would be amazing if this company set up a service so that customers could design they're own rucksack, I'd pay good money for that.

How is volume measured?

The volume of each backpack is measured using a standard method: we fill the main compartment, as well as each pocket, with little balls. Then we empty these balls into a graduated container, which gives the equivalent volume in litres. The capacity of the main volume of this bag is 16L. We also measured the volume with the 2 exterior side water bottle pockets, whereby its total capacity increases to 17L

Tested for optimal durability

To ensure the bag is strong enough, we conduct laboratory tests on the components and seams, which replicate the long-term wear and tear that the backpack will endure. For example, for a fabric, we test the resistance to abrasion and tearing, the colour fastness when exposed to UV light and washing, and the waterproofing. We use these tests to guarantee the bags for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase on the receipt.

How to adjust your backpack?

1 - Loosen all straps, shoulder straps and chest belt2 - Put on the bag3 - Buckle the chest belt, adjust its height and width4 - Tighten the shoulder straps (from top to bottom)5 - Adjust to fitYou’re all set!

How to fill your backpack?

Place the heavy items, e.g. laptop, picnic, etc., in the bottom and in the spaces provided. Pack your clothes around these items. Put the small belongings that you will use during the day (sun cream, map, sunglasses, etc.) in the pockets. Put the water bottle(s) in the outer pockets on the sides that are made for this purpose.

Product testing

It’s in France, at the foot of Mont Blanc, that our design team conceives, designs and creates Quechua products. We test them in the field with other hikers to make sure that they are comfortable and durable. This backpack has been tested and improved by hikers in different climatic conditions and different environments.
