Cold jacket

I am dissatisfied with this jacket. The description says up to -10 degrees C, which I understood to mean that the jacket can only be cold at this temperature and that would be acceptable to me. Meanwhile, at temperatures around -2/-3 degrees C and more, I feel discomfort. I know that the feeling of cold is an individual matter, but on the other hand, this is not my first jacket... I think that the manufacturer has greatly exaggerated the parameters. There could be a bit more filling. For me, it's an early spring or late autumn jacket, definitely not winter.

Excellent

Perfect! I was looking for a similar down jacket (same weight/fill characteristics). This one is 4x cheaper. It keeps you warm very well, and the cut/finish is top notch.

Composition

Filling: 90.0% Grey Duck Down, 10.0% Grey Duck Feather ; Main fabric: 100.0% Polyamide ; Main lining: 100.0% Polyamide ; Pocket: 100.0% Polyester

How warm is this padded jacket?

This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of 14°F (-10°C) during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 3.1 mi/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. Its comfort temperature is 32°F (0°C) in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.- Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.- Ultra-compressible.

How to measure the fill power of a down and feather wadding?

The fill power is a measure of the down's thermal insulation capacity and its potential to ”trap” air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. This puffer jacket, filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, has a guaranteed fill power of 800 CUIN (international standard) or over.

Weight of filling

XS: 5.2oz or 122 g S: 4.6oz or 131 gM: 4.9oz or 140gL: 5.2oz or 149 gXL: 5.6oz or 159 g 2 XL: 6oz or 170 g3XL: 6.3oz or 181 g 4XL: 6.7oz or 192g

What is rds certification?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organization to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only feathers from geese and ducks raised for their meat and slaughtered before down and feathers are collected.

The eco-design actions carried out on this down jacket

The lining of the inner lining is innovative because it is two-tone. That means that it combines a black dope-dyed thread with an undyed thread. Compared to conventional dyeing, this process reduces CO2 emissions by 14%. The outer fabric is made of recycled polyester.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it will retain its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 86°F or 30°C, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle. 2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating (PFC-free) its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

Product testing

4 independent Forclaz trekkers and 4 members of Forclaz tested this down jacket during 3 days of trekking in November 2021 up to 9842 ft. altitude near Chamonix in the Mont Blanc Country. The feedback given to us after this test let us validate this down jacket for mountain trekking.
