Down jacket used to go…

Down jacket used to trek to Everest base camp in April. Keeps you warm and is pleasant for negative temperatures (-5/-10°). Pair with a Goretex windbreaker if it is windy. Very good value for money

Satisfied

The down jacket did the job for this winter. The cut is nice and doesn't look "saggy".

Great down jacket

Bought for the Swedish “spring”. Nice cut, fits perfectly. Very warm and windproof. Definitely a good purchase.

Down jacket not waterproof

Mediocre product, not waterproof at this high price and Decathlon refuses to take these complaints into account....TO AVOID, and bravo to Decathlon for its bad faith!!!

False advertising

The down jacket is absolutely not water-repellent. Crosses completely after 3 minutes of very light rain. Under warranty and in perfect condition. Decathlon refused to take it back. 100 euros wasted.

Not very warm down jacket

I bought another thinner down jacket from Decathlon and it was cheaper and more compact. I find that in terms of warmth it's not great... In terms of freedom of movement it's the same because thinner down jackets are more practical and just as warm.

How warm is this padded jacket?

This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -10°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. Its comfort temperature is 0°C in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.- Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.- Ultra-compressible.

How to measure the fill power of a down and feather wadding?

The fill power is a measure of the down fts thermal insulation capacity and its potential to InchtrapInch air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. This puffer jacket, filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, has a guaranteed fill power of 800 CUIN (international standard) or over.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 30°C, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle. 2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating (PFC-free) its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

How to repair your fleece?

A tear on a padded jacket can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping. Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Some Decathlon workshops offer an in-store repair service to mend your padded jacket using a heat-bonded patch.

Product testing

In November 2021, 4 independent female Forclaz backpackers and 2 members of Forclaz are tested this down jacket for 3 days of backpacking up to 9842 ft. altitude near Chamonix, in the Mont Blanc Country. The feedback given to us after this test: let us validate this down jacket for backpacking in the mountains.
