About this item:
- This backpack is made for multiple days hiking or trekking in autonomy. You can carry everything you need to camp, drink and eat on your back with comfort.
- The MT500 AIR only weighs 3.8 lbs and can contain a total volume of 55 liters which we recommend for a trip over 2 weeks long. The top of the bag is adjustable and can hold an extra 10 liters of volume.
- This backpack has plenty of features if you are looking for a technical option at a fair price: AIR concept back ventilation, rain cover, water bottle holder, hiking poles holder, 8 pockets and a compartment for a water bladder for easy hydration.
- The AIR concept: in order for your back to dry faster, we added a mesh on top of a ventilated structure. Ideal for long and sweaty day hikes from one camp to another !
- This is a women's backpack: This bag has been conceived for a masculine morphology (torso and hips). We recommend to consider the users physical morphology when you choose a bag for comfort purposes when carrying it on your back.
- 10-year warranty: the fabric of the bag is ultra resistant and Decathlon is proud to offer this warranty for any defect that could appear in the next 10 years.

Product Customer Reviews
Lightweight, practical, full of storage, comfortable
Used for 3 weeks in Asia, this technical bag meets all the demands. Robust to go in the hold of an airplane, waterproof with its protective cover... The compartmentalization is perfect and its large opening allows you to reach all the things easily. There is a lot of storage space.
a great bag, practical and light and spacious
The drawstring to close the top of the bag does not tighten, it seems to be broken. So you can't close the bag completely, which is problematic. I hope to be able to get it repaired under warranty. Otherwise, it is a practical bag and relatively comfortable to wear.
Went on a bivouac for 4 days 90km All the stuff fits, great compartmentalization, 13kg (including the weight of the bag) without the filled water pocket (2L) and there is still room! The weight of the bag is forgotten thanks to the clever carrying by the hips and the strap above the chest, the back ventilation system is really great, but the bag creaks: it is unbearable during the day. On the second day, the belt hurts, I decide to loosen it but shoulder pain appears… I tighten the belt, the bag empties (meal) and the pain disappears, the creaking fades but is still there. Big downside, I found no other solution than to empty the top of the bag as well as the central compartment to take out the water pocket… The waterproof cover was used mainly at night to protect it from humidity, because it touches the canvas of the apse. A few more adjustments and I really recommend this bag. Despite these flaws, it is a very good bag with excellent value for money. I recommend it with my eyes closed!!
following my purchase 2 remarks. 1) the bag does not stand up straight on its own like in the photo, (you had to wedge it for the photo!) it always falls forward it is very annoying. you have to lay it on the ground. not at all practical. 2) the pocket on the rigid side to put a bottle in is not functional I had a flexible water filter bottle when it is barely held but as soon as you drink, the elastics do not hold the rest, and the bottle falls all the time. I will have to readapt it to make another use of it.
Everything is well thought out. Can be used for trekking or backpacking. Very good value for money. I highly recommend
Well-compartmentalized bag that allows you to be well organized. Multiple straps that allow you to adjust the carrying as best as possible. Just one downside on the top of the bag which sometimes makes it difficult to raise your head when the bag is full to the max.
Light bag for its capacity. Very pleasant carrying, you almost don't feel it! Many pockets, good organization of the bag. Bag designed for the female body, therefore very pleasant. Compression straps are a plus. Small drawback, I would have liked a water bottle holder pocket on the bag strap. The pocket provided for this purpose is not super practical (for my taste). The finish of this bag is neat and well designed. I recommend this bag
Used for at least 4 treks of +/-150km, I find it practical in every way. The 2 main zippers and the bottom opening make it easy to open and find things, even in a small trekking tent or on a bus. It is multi-adjustable, practical to manage the volume according to the storage of meals. Comfort on the hips and back with the mesh. No problem in case of rain. Just a downside on the top opening: the opening direction is practical when walking, but less so when the bag is flat in the tent. But we make do. I have the men's model on the other hand (a problem with shoulder width; the straps of the women's model were too tight and rubbed at the neck).
Good product, I like the back adjustment and the compression straps. The water bottle holder on the side is very practical.
Used to walk 8 hours a day in the mountains for 8 days in bivouac (so quite loaded) this bag is comfortable. I'm 1m72 tall and the XL setting was still a little tight (2 more XLs would have been appreciated for my size). I hadn't tried the bag before leaving and it took me 3/4 days for the belt to fit my body. In fact there are reinforcements on the sides of the belt which are a little rigid and were very painful on the hips. Once this problem resolved itself, the bag is really great. Practical with its pockets and interior straps which allow you to store and distribute the load.
Ideal for an 11-day camp. Everything could fit in it, and the many compartments are a plus.
Super comfortable and lots of very practical compartments
Distributes weight well, numerous compartments

Air design
As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.
Materials
Polyamide main fabric 210D RS (Ripstop = increased resistance to tears), reinforced bag base (420Dx330D RS)
Recommended carry weight
According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 15 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.
How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.
How to use the multi-use straps?
The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this. The can also be detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.
Female body shape
Our women's models are adapted to the female shape (chest and hips). The shoulder straps are more open and the waist fitted higher for greater comfort and freedom of movement.
Product testing
All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter. To test, assess and validate products, our mission test connects the product manager responsible for the product design with individuals independent to DECATHLON. This backpack was tested by trekkers for 5 weeks in the Canary Islands, the Pyrenees and the Mont Blanc mountain range.
