The waterproof cover is relatively weak and it was cut after just one use. But the overall carrying flexibility is very good
great hiking backpack
I tested this bag during 3 bivouacs of 3 days (around 66 km each time). Delighted with this bag which I was able to adjust to my height (1m57). I had read in the comments, before my purchase, about discomfort at the waist, I actually had it when the bag was too heavy for me. At 12 kilos the first time it was a bit rough. But now my bag weighs 10 kilos (with tent, sleeping bag, water, accessories, etc.) and no more feeling in that regard. To lighten my bag, I also tend to keep the fleece jacket that I use in the evening around my waist. Either I've gotten used to it, or I need to avoid carrying things that are too heavy. I had also read that the upper part could hit the head, that happened to me once, but then properly adjusted (tighten the bag well) no problem, if the bag is really full, you have to loosen it at the top so that the upper part does not go backwards. The ventral opening is great. The water bottle access is great too, I regret that it is not offered on the smaller capacity day backpacks. The different parts allow you to store everything well. This is going to be my companion for a few more adventures. I dream of a mini version of this backpack for day hikes
The belt padding is insufficient. I had to roll a jacket up at the waist to avoid feeling the hard part on the hips. The top pocket has torn at the seam. I had to do an emergency stitch to avoid losing things.
I had a Forclaz 60 trekking backpack but 6 years ago and the carrying comfort of this one is very appreciable especially with the ventilated back! The distribution of behaviors is well done allowing accessorization. The only problems: - Being thin, I have to tighten it as much as possible and therefore end up with a lot of excess straps. - I am 170cm tall and have to adjust the back in size S so the bag is a little high behind me (which is sometimes cumbersome to visualize the sky once the bag on my back). For smaller people it must be a bit of a hassle? However, I recommend this bag which seems to me to be the best in the SAD trek 50/70 L women's range.
Very well thought out in terms of pockets and accessories (straps, water bladder compartment, etc.), nice color. On the other hand, the carrying belt is not very comfortable (not padded enough) given the potential weight of the bag, and above all insufficient tightening capacity for my standard 38/40 body shape (tight as possible on my hips, I had to wear a garment rolled underneath to make carrying more efficient and comfortable).
I bought the 55 plus 10 backpack but it can contain less than my old broken backpack of 45 plus 10 which had 2 compartments. I guess the extra 10 Iiter I thought I would have/gain is the front pocket which you basically do not want to use when transporting or having the pack on your back, you want to have your belongings compact in the main container. I also don't like the frame in it as it creates a quite a large hole/space between your back and the backpack itself and it doesn't make the backpack feel flexible. Plus after packing all my stuff in it, the backpack is larger than my old 45 plus 10. I haven't used it yet, but packed all my stuff three times for three different travels, walked around with it on my back and am not satisfied, so I still have not used it.
Bag a little high for me because I am a small adult. (1m50). Too bad I can't adjust the height...otherwise it was perfect...
As soon as bought, immediately tried for a refuge and a two-day hike. It is light, ergonomic and has many compartments (even a little too much 😅). The possibility of adjusting according to its size is great
Lightweight backpack despite the size and all the compartments super well thought out and designed. Super practical, very comfortable and pleasant to wear. Very pretty colors. This hiking backpack is a real success.
Perfect for mountain hiking, no back pain, light, waterproof, and storage! THANKS .
Perfect bag for traveling by train
My niece received the backpack as a gift, she used it immediately and was delighted.
Good bag used for my mountain bivouac hikes.
Practical and light
Additional Product Information
Composition
Main fabric: 100.0% Polyamide ; Lining: 100.0% Polyester ; Yoke: 100.0% Polyamide ; Webbing: 100.0% Polypropylene ; Bag cover: 100.0% Polyester ; Coating: 100.0% Polyurethane
Dimensions
Height : 27.5”, Width: 13.8”, Depth: 13.8”.
Capacity
The bag has a 55 L volume with an extra 10 L extension. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.
Weight
3.8 lbs everything included. The rain cover can be removed and weighs 3.5 oz.
Air design
As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.
Materials
Polyamide main fabric 210D RS (Ripstop = increased resistance to tears), reinforced bag base (420Dx330D RS)
Recommended carry weight
According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 33 lbs. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.
How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.
How to use the multi-use straps?
The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this. The can also be detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.
Female body shape
Our women's models are adapted to the female shape (chest and hips). The shoulder straps are more open and the waist fitted higher for greater comfort and freedom of movement.
Product testing
All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter. To test, assess and validate products, our mission test connects the product manager responsible for the product design with individuals independent to DECATHLON. This backpack was tested by trekkers for 5 weeks in the Canary Islands, the Pyrenees and the Mont Blanc mountain range.
Storage instructions
Store your bag in a dry, ventilated place away from direct light.
