About this item:
- This backpack is made for multiple days hiking or trekking in autonomy. You can carry everything you need to camp, drink and eat on your back with comfort.
- The MT500 AIR only weighs 3.8 lbs and can contain a total volume of 55 liters which we recommend for a trip over 2 weeks long. The top of the bag is adjustable and can hold an extra 10 liters of volume.
- This backpack has plenty of features if you are looking for a technical option at a fair price: AIR concept back ventilation, rain cover, water bottle holder, hiking poles holder, 8 pockets and a compartment for a water bladder for easy hydration.

The bag is heavy enough for trekking. Just with the sleeping bag, the inflatable mattress, and the tent, it really makes the bag heavier.
1st bag of this style bought for backpacking, so I have no comparison. Good storage level, you can put a lot in it, but the adjustment is a bit of a pain to do, I had to redo it several times, especially on the back.
I liked it, nice and large capacity
No matter how I adjusted the bag, the metal at the bottom of the bag was digging into my hips, causing very unpleasant pain while walking... I'm not that small (1.68m), horrible...
I like this backpack because it has a lot of pockets and compartments to keep everything organized and in order. It also has straps to hold what you carry inside and keep it from moving. Front access is very comfortable. You can adjust the height of the shoulder straps comfortably. It is padded and has a breathable back. The design and color are nice, original compared to the colors of other backpacks that tend to be less varied and more boring in terms of colors. It comes with a waterproof cover. The fabric is not canvas like other backpacks, although I have not tried it yet to give an opinion on its resistance.

A backpack that not only looks great, but also serves its purpose. Lots of pockets, a super well-made back, fits even a petite woman (XS). Beautiful color design. I have no complaints.

I bought the bag for my camping and high mountain activities. I had used other brands before, this model is a full price-performance product. I am generally satisfied, but the fabric quality is not very durable, especially the base part has worn a little in 3 uses. In my opinion, one of its shortcomings is the lack of a section where I can place the pickaxe for winter activities.

Capacity
The bag has a 55 L volume with an extra 10 L extension. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.

Air design
As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.

Recommended carry weight
According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 15 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.
How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.
How to use the multi-use straps?
The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this. The can also be detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.
Female body shape
Our women's models are adapted to the female shape (chest and hips). The shoulder straps are more open and the waist fitted higher for greater comfort and freedom of movement.

All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter. To test, assess and validate products, our mission test connects the product manager responsible for the product design with individuals independent to DECATHLON. This backpack was tested by trekkers for 5 weeks in the Canary Islands, the Pyrenees and the Mont Blanc mountain range.
