walking poles

Bought these for my wife and she has constantly used them.

Perfect gear for TMB

This trekking pole was my trusty companion during the Tour du Mont Blanc. I bought a pair, and they’re lightweight, easy to carry, and incredibly reliable. Highly recommend!

not great..

Expect to Duct Tape these and they work fine. Overall the design is poor.

Constant companion on my HML Training

Purchased for my Hill and Moorland Leader Training, replaced my aging Leki Poles. Really like the compact form factor when they're folded up. Can easily store them inside my pack. When I'm training I usually have the poles stashed away leaving my hands free for map and navigation tools. Only negative, they are lightweight and perfectly strong for walking with but certainly think twice about using them for demonstrating trekking pole carrys but then they're not designed for that

Bought a pair in Sep 2023 as last-ditch before the 60km Ultimate Trail of South ultra race at Kota Tinggi, Johor. Trails there were technical, ie muddy, sand, with many dried leaves or roots, and some water logged peaks. This pole is useless in that terrain. Kept coming off when the tip got stuck in mud. Really frustrated and drained me when i kept correcting to set it again and again while on the muds. I thought i did not know how to keep it in hold, but after reading the other reviews here, haha i realise it is not me but the product itself has its flaws. I’l stil use it in my elevation training runs on urban hard ground like Bt Timah Hill or Marang Trail (Mt Faber) where it performs its job; but not on soft grounds where the tip gets stuck then the upper segments come off when you want to strike it up for the next stride.

Super compact packable in hand luggage size bag.

This is a 4 piece stick. It was brilliant when I found out that locking the hidden in the handle (4th) section made it perfect. Simple click lock to change from uphill to downhill. Great value for money. Confidentally looking forward to my next hike.

The 3 pieces are held together by a small silcon rubber triangle. Once the rubber wears off.... the pole just slides apart while in use. I had to duct tape the pole together to finish my hike. Good for been compact, but thats it. Not worth the higher price

just comes apart

arrived without instructions, but there doesn't seem much to it. One clamp holds the top, but the other sections just seem to slot in, and then slide out again with nothing to hold them. Useless.

Waste of money

This product is terrible and dangerous. It may be ok if you are using it on asphalt roads but unless in mountains especially with mud or snow. I almost had an accident because of that sticks. We have been hiking in high mountains with snow and rocks and stick has disconnected as down part stayed in the snow and I have slipped into the rocks. Parts are disconnecting when you are using them in more demanding conditions! This is not acceptable at all!

Compact trekking pole

Seems ok for the money

Poles not fit for purpose

First time used these poles this weekend they would not stay upright and kept collapsing which caused me much anxiety as I was on a hard hike and relied on the poles

Great pole but better instructions needed

Initially, I couldn't work out how to get the separate sections to lock into place - they kept disassembling when I was walking with the pole which was hugely frustrating. The diagram accompanying the pole isn't really sufficient to tell you how to lock the sections into place. I was on the point of returning the pole when I read some of the reviews and found someone else had the same problem; but in the comments section Decathlon had very helpfully added these instructions: To correctly assemble the pole so that the sections don't separate, you have to pull one section far enough that a push pin locks it in place. If this is done correctly, then the tension on the string that connects the poles should hold the sections together. To engage the push pin you have to pull on the section that has the bronze coloured tip.

defective

good for the first 10 minutes but the detachable parts don't stay in place, and come apart when the pole is pulled upwards, even in the tiniest bit of mud. i'd like a refund.

Additional Product Information

Composition

Shaft: 100.0% Aluminium ; Handle: 100.0% Ethylene Vinyl Acetate

How it was designed...

Fully designed and validated by our team at the foot of Mont Blanc, a team with enthusiastic and demanding trekkers, during legendary treks: Mont Blanc, Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Tenerife. The pole’s durability has also been tested by a 550 km mission test in the Canaries and the Pyrenees (GR10).

Why have we worked hard on durability?

You trek to enjoy the calm of great expanses which sometimes takes you far from civilization. You also carry your belongings for several days. Therefore, you need to rely on the resistance of your poles. We have selected wider tubes in the highest grade aluminum. We have secured the push-pin area with internal reinforcement. Compression test results (pressure on the pole axis) show that this model can therefore support 560 N (~56 kg) per pole.

Why have we focused on compactness?

To get to your trek you will sometimes have to take transport. You will also have to carry all your equipment in your bag. It’s therefore much more practical to have compact poles. Once collapsed, these poles fit in the side pocket of your trekking backpack.

How did we design this handle?

We favoured EVA foam, soft material, perfect for handling perspiration and resisting tears. We added a long grip underneath the handle for a lower hold uphill and on banking terrain. The knob is the most comfortable in the range with its long, rounded shape and soft material. It provides good grip from above. Finally, we designed the wrist-strap without extra thickness and few seams to avoid blisters.

How to adjust your poles to the correct length?

To use the pole: firstly, extend the pole until the “click” of the push-pin. Refer to the instructions attached to the pole.To adjust the length: Hold the poles with your arms bent at a right angle. - open the outer lever- slide the tube to the desired length- close the leverNever go over the STOP line to avoid breaking the pole.

Directions for use

This hiking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself and distribute effort between arms and legs.To be on the safe side, check before you set off and at regular intervals that your baton is locked in place by simulating heavy bumps. If you notice that your pole tends to slide down, the locking mechanism turn ring needs adjusting. Open the lever and turn the knob a quarter to a half turn.Do not put on your backpack in case of a storm.

Care tips

Proper maintenance of your baton will ensure that it functions optimally and that it lasts longer. After use, if water has penetrated the stick, remove the strands and allow to dry. If necessary, clean the dust or mud with water or a dry brush. Once dry, you can reassemble the strands. We recommend that you do not attempt to oil or grease the mechanisms.

Why is the pole sold individually?

At Decathlon, we have decided to sell our hiking/trekking poles individually. First because of how they are used. Indeed, some people only want to use one pole. Also, if one of your poles breaks, this means you only have to buy one and not a complete pair.

Accessories sold separately and adapted to this model

The advantage of buying Forclaz trekking poles is that you have a wide choice of compatible accessories and spare parts. So you can enjoy it for as long as possible.Summer baskets : ref. 8737774Winter baskets: ref. 8503857

Product testing

To set our thresholds, we have measured the stresses on the poles in the most demanding situations. During its development, each model undergoes laboratory tests that reproduce these stresses (compression, three-point bending, etc.) until it breaks. We also tests parts separately (tightening power, tearing, etc). Finally, these tests are regularly repeated in production to ensure a constant level of quality.

Storage instructions

Store the baton in a dry place without tightening the adjusting systems, so that they are not strained and retain their clamping power.
