I'm confused about the torso lengths for this?

When choosing the size of a hiking backpack, it’s important to take into account your body shape. The backpack size should be adapted to your back. It’s measured from the base of your neck to your hips and the grip of the stomach strap should be comfortable on your hips. How to accurately measure your torso for optimal backpack fit? To ascertain this crucial measurement, enlist the help of a friend and have a pliable tape measure on hand. Bend your head forward and locate the bony protrusion where your shoulder slope meets your neck—the 7th cervical (C7) vertebra, marking the top of your torso length. On either side of your body, run your hands down the ribcage to the apex of your hip bones (known as the iliac crest). Align your index fingers forward and your thumbs backward, creating an imaginary line between them. The point on your lumbar region where this line intersects is the base of your torso measurement. Maintain an upright posture, and ask your friend to measure the distance between the C7 and the imaginary line formed by your thumbs. This measurement constitutes your torso length.

Comfortable and functional Ziano

I used the backpack for the Camino de Santiago and found it comfortable and functional thanks to the different accesses and the internal straps to compact the materials, the two waist pockets are very large, the only flaw is the hood removal system which is a a little complicated and since it also doesn't have a shoulder pad, I don't particularly see the use of it.

Very good.

I bought it for my wife, it fits well on the back, comfortable, nice size adjustment. A big plus is the number of pockets.

I haven't been out with it yet, but I just filled it to 12 kg at home and it seems great. It didn't press anywhere, and the harder waist belt, on the contrary, suits me, it fits well.

I purchased it for my next trip: Via Francigena from Siena to Viterbo.

Pretty good

Storage levels there are quite a few compartments with great ease of storage, opening from the front is great. On the other hand, the bottle holder is useless, impossible to put a 1 L bottle without hitting it, which is very unpleasant. The 2 small front pockets are just right for a smartphone, and if they would have been modular it would have been a plus either to pass the excess straps underneath or to lighten the bag for smaller treks. I measure 1m57 which is just right, I would not recommend it to people shorter than me, once full and the hair tied up can cause friction discomfort. Used only on short hikes to get used to and adjust the bag. To see on the gr20 next year, on prolonged use if it still holds up.

Clever pockets but not comfortable

Used for treks of several days in autonomy, it has two big faults: the too rigid belt is painful on the hips when it is loaded (13-14 kilos) and when you carry it only on the shoulders, it hurts the collarbones ( I don't think it's a matter of height, I'm 1.75m tall). Second flaw, its main pocket is quite narrow because of the curve and I can't fit my sleeping bag in there, even if it's tight. Otherwise, the exterior pockets are very clever (and in particular access to the water bottle without removing the bag). We should review the carrying in my opinion, especially since I am not the only one to notice the problem with the belt..

Very practical bag with many pockets, it took a little time to organize it but once each object found its place it is very functional.

A great trekking backpack

The perfect bag for long hikes. I tried it for a week while walking in the mountains, where it seemed very light and comfortable. It is easy to adjust the straps of the bag so that the weight is distributed evenly and not concentrated on the shoulders/back. It is very roomy and is equipped with several compartments in which I could easily organize the things I brought with me, it has many pockets, especially the spacious hip belt pockets - I could put everything I needed in them so that I did not have to take the bag off several times.

Both functional and adjustable. Be careful of the Velcro fasteners which snag your clothes.

Very practical but not suitable for small people

I bought this bag over a year ago and tested it on several three-day mountain treks (with my tent or in lodges). The +: * Lots of pockets that allow you to store and easily access your equipment * Large enough to go completely independently with your tent * You don't feel the weight of the bag at all * Rather solid so far; no tear in the fabric, no closure or buckle has failed and even when fully loaded The -: * I am 1m50 tall and I am embarrassed if I add things to the top of the bag, so I have to leave without the additional 10L * The frame hurts at the waist, but by carrying the bag a little lower than usual, I no longer feel anything * I tried one day to leave with a 1L bottle on the side and on a narrow path the bottle rubs against the walls and unbalances me. I would have preferred to be able to put two 0.5L bottles on the side or on the straps and have less bulky storage than the current one * The fact that the back is curved, in addition to adding its water pocket, means that it there is not a lot of space in the main pocket I recommend this bag for its practicality, but changes to make it more suitable for small people would be welcome.

Air design

As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.

Polyamide main fabric 210D RS (Ripstop = increased resistance to tears), reinforced bag base (420Dx330D RS)

Recommended carry weight

According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 15 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.

How to use the multi-use straps?

The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this or detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.

Female body shape

Our women's models are adapted to their body shape (chest and hips) with a more open shoulder strap shape and a higher fitted belt for greater comfort and freedom of movement.

Product testing

All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter. To test, assess and validate products, our mission test connects the product manager responsible for the product design with individuals independent to DECATHLON. This backpack was tested by trekkers for 5 weeks in the Canary Islands, the Pyrenees and the Mont Blanc mountain range.

Storage instructions

Store your bag in a dry, ventilated place away from direct light.
