Product Customer Reviews

Bought it for Xmas as a gift for an avid hiker , she loved it , super compact great for back pack when not in use
having crook knees I need to use a stick and this is great to carry around in the topbox on my motorcycle
Initially, I couldn't work out how to get the separate sections to lock into place - they kept disassembling when I was walking with the pole which was hugely frustrating. The diagram accompanying the pole isn't really sufficient to tell you how to lock the sections into place. I was on the point of returning the pole when I read some of the reviews and found someone else had the same problem; but in the comments section Decathlon had very helpfully added these instructions: To correctly assemble the pole so that the sections don't separate, you have to pull one section far enough that a push pin locks it in place. If this is done correctly, then the tension on the string that connects the poles should hold the sections together. To engage the push pin you have to pull on the section that has the bronze coloured tip.
Have been used on a number of walks they are very easy to to.take.out a rucksack pull together and get walking. also fully adjustable race simply but different heights. Very pleased with them and the price was very competitive
good for the first 10 minutes but the detachable parts don't stay in place, and come apart when the pole is pulled upwards, even in the tiniest bit of mud. i'd like a refund.
Excellent light weight and packable pole
The Forclaz poles are comfortable to use, relatively lightweight and very compact when folded. However, there seems to be a fundamental design flaw. It is not possible to lock the lower sections of the pole and do if the pole tip catches up Nader a rock or even under the surface of snow, the pole disassembles - a potentially dangerous outcome.
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time review our Ultra Compact Trekking Pole.
I'm sorry that you found an issue with your poles, I would like to check one thing though. To correctly assemble the pole so that the sections don't separate, you have to pull one section far enough that a push pin locks it in place. If this is done correctly, then the tension on the string that connects the poles should hold the sections together. To engage the push pin you have to pull on the section that has the bronze coloured.
I hope this solves the issue that you had,
Best Regards

For the greatest benefit I would suggest buying a pair of these having initially started with just one pole.
Having been given one of these as a gift, and having used it during a recent Snowdon trip, I was sufficiently impressed to purchase a second, matching, pole: Pro's - Compact size, simply extended and adjusted in seconds. Good quality materials & sturdy construction. Con's - Price - almost £70 for a pair of walking poles is certainly not cheap. Would I have purchased this model, at this price, if I'd not been given one pole as a gift ? probably not, although the quality of materials and construction do appear to be very good - time will tell...
Comfortable grip and adjustable height (especially for taller people). The pole is quite light so it wouldn't be a burden while walking for a long distance.

I see some reviews which says the pole does not fix properly. I initially thought the same, but you got to pull it tight until you get the click button popping out near the handle. Once this is done, it is firm and no chance of it slipping. Only drawback is the tip cap is not positioned well. You have to remove it and keep in your pocket every time.
Additional Product Information
Composition
Shaft: 100.0% Aluminium ; Handle: 100.0% Ethylene Vinyl Acetate
How it was designed...
Fully designed and validated by our team at the foot of Mont Blanc, a team with enthusiastic and demanding trekkers, during legendary treks: Mont Blanc, Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Tenerife. The pole’s durability has also been tested by a 550 km mission test in the Canaries and the Pyrenees (GR10).
Why have we worked hard on durability?
You trek to enjoy the calm of great expanses which sometimes takes you far from civilisation. You also carry your belongings for several days. Therefore, you need to rely on the resistance of your poles. We have selected wider tubes in the highest grade aluminium. We have secured the push-pin area with internal reinforcement. Compression test results (pressure on the pole axis) show that this model can therefore support 560 N (~56 kg) per pole.
Why have we focused on compactness?
To get to your trek you will sometimes have to take transport. You will also have to carry all your equipment in your bag. It’s therefore much more practical to have compact poles. Once collapsed, these poles fit in the side pocket of your trekking backpack.
How did we design this handle?
We favoured EVA foam, soft material, perfect for handling perspiration and resisting tears. We added a long grip underneath the handle for a lower hold uphill and on banking terrain. The knob is the most comfortable in the range with its long, rounded shape and soft material. It provides good grip from above. Finally, we designed the wrist-strap without extra thickness and few seams to avoid blisters.
How to adjust your poles to the correct length?
To use the pole: firstly, extend the pole until the “click” of the push-pin. Refer to the instructions attached to the pole.To adjust the length: Hold the poles with your arms bent at a right angle. - open the outer lever- slide the tube to the desired length- close the leverNever go over the STOP line to avoid breaking the pole.
Directions for use
This hiking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself and distribute effort between arms and legs.To be on the safe side, check before you set off and at regular intervals that your baton is locked in place by simulating heavy bumps. If you notice that your pole tends to slide down, the locking mechanism turn ring needs adjusting. Open the lever and turn the knob a quarter to a half turn.Do not put on your backpack in case of a storm.
Care tips
Proper maintenance of your baton will ensure that it functions optimally and that it lasts longer. After use, if water has penetrated the stick, remove the strands and allow to dry. If necessary, clean the dust or mud with water or a dry brush. Once dry, you can reassemble the strands. We recommend that you do not attempt to oil or grease the mechanisms.
Why is the pole sold individually?
At Decathlon, we have decided to sell our hiking/trekking poles individually. First because of how they are used. Indeed, some people only want to use one pole. Also, if one of your poles breaks, this means you only have to buy one and not a complete pair.
Accessories sold separately and adapted to this model
The advantage of buying Forclaz trekking poles is that you have a wide choice of compatible accessories and spare parts. So you can enjoy it for as long as possible.Hiking pole caps: ref. 8580865Summer baskets: ref. 8503854Winter baskets: ref. 8503857Replacement tip: ref. 8577676
Product testing
To set our thresholds, we have measured the stresses on the poles in the most demanding situations.During its development, each model undergoes laboratory tests that reproduce these stresses (compression, three-point bending, etc.) until it breaks. We also tests parts separately (tightening power, tearing, etc). Finally, these tests are regularly repeated in production to ensure a constant level of quality.
Storage instructions
Store the baton in a dry place without tightening the adjusting systems, so that they are not strained and retain their clamping power.
