Sportivement

Additional Product Information

Composition

Shaft

  • 100% Aluminum

Handle

  • 100% Ethylene vinyl acetate
  • 50% Styrene ethylene butadiene styrene

How it was designed...

Fully designed and validated by our team at the foot of Mont Blanc, a team with enthusiastic and demanding trekkers, during legendary treks: Mont Blanc, Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Tenerife. The pole’s durability has also been tested by a 342-mile mission test in the Canaries and the Pyrenees (GR10).

Why have we worked hard on durability?

You trek to enjoy the calm of great expanses that sometimes takes you far from civilization. You also carry your belongings for several days. Therefore, you need to rely on the resistance of your poles. We have selected wider tubes in top of the range aluminum. We have secured the push-pin area with internal reinforcement. Compression test results (pressure on the pole axis) show that this model can therefore support 560 N (~56 kg) per pole.

Why have we focused on compactness?

To get to your trek you will sometimes have to take transport. You will also have to carry all your equipment in your bag. It’s therefore much more practical to have compact poles. Once collapsed, these poles fit in the side pocket of your backpacking backpack.

How did we design this handle?

We favored EVA foam, soft material, perfect for handling perspiration and resisting tears. We added a long grip underneath the handle for a lower hold uphill and on banking terrain. The knob is the most comfortable in the range with its long, rounded shape and soft material. It provides good grip from above. Finally, we designed the wrist-strap without extra thickness and few seams to avoid blisters.

Tube details.

The lower tube has undergone special treatment called shot-blasting. This is a mechanical treatment to the surface that does not require anodization and is therefore less polluting. There is no effect on the pole’s resistance. It gives a granular appearance and the natural color of the aluminum remains. The (inevitable) scratches will therefore be less visible. The other four tubes are still anodized as their sliding ability requires smooth surfaces.

How to adjust your poles to the correct length?

Hold the poles with your arms bent at a right angle. To use the pole: firstly, extend the pole until the “click” of the push-pin. Refer to the instructions attached to the pole. To adjust the length: open the outer lever, slide the tube to the desired length and close the lever. Never go over the STOP line to avoid breaking the pole.

Directions for use

These hiking poles are designed to help you balance, propel yourself and spread the effort between the arms and legs. To increase safety, check your pole's locking mechanism by pressing down hard on it before you start and at regular intervals. If you notice that your pole tends to slide down, the locking mechanism turn ring needs adjusting. Open the lever and tighten the turn ring by a quarter or half turn. Do not attach to your backpack in stormy weather

Care instructions

Maintaining your poles properly enables you to maintain optimal function and increase their lifespan. After use, if water has got into the pole, take the parts apart and allow to dry. Clean any dust and mud with or without water using a soft brush or paintbrush. Once dry, you can reassemble the parts. We recommend that you do not try to oil or grease them.

Why are the poles sold individually?

At Decathlon, we decided to sell our hiking/backpacking poles individually. On the one hand, for usage reasons. Indeed, some people prefer to use just one pole. This therefore meets their needs. On the other hand, if one of your poles breaks, this means you only have to buy one and not a complete pair.

Product testing

To set our thresholds, we have measured the stresses on the poles in the most demanding situations. During the design stage, each model undergoes laboratory tests that reproduce these stresses (compression, bending in three places, etc.) until it breaks. We also test parts separately (tightening power, tearing, etc.). Finally, these tests are regularly repeated during production to guarantee consistent level of quality.

Storage instructions

Store the poles without tightening the adjustment system to reduce the stresses on the system and protect their tightening power. Store poles in a dry place.
