Top-notch! And otherwise…

Top-notch! And otherwise very practical and solid

Good product, a little expensive

The elements are of good quality. But the plates remain greasy even after washing. Only the dishwasher cleans them perfectly (not when camping).

Very well designed but still optimizable

Very good, well thought out and high quality product. If I had a point of improvement I would add 2 cups or tumblers because for breakfast if there are 4 of us we have to make a choice between a cup and a glass! There remains a little unoptimized space between the cups and the lid so it would be possible to make cups a little lower than stackable and thus add 2 or more cups for those who have coffee and fruit juice! Also remember to bring a good knife and spatula (not provided).

Interesting concept but too many flaws

I have been using this pot for several years, especially in a van. There are quite a few 4-person meals on the market. This one is compact and stores in a clever way. But it is still a little heavy for traveling camping/treking. However, plastic tableware is light. The cutlery, however, is not very sturdy and should be handled with a little care (a few broken fork tips). Plastic knives allow you to spread and "push" but not to cut meat for example (no surprise). Complete with one or two metal knives but be careful not to press too hard or you risk marking the plates. I added a cloth to the bottom of the pan so that the coating would not be damaged by the cups (especially with the vibrations in the van). Everything is easy to clean. For me the real problem with this pot is the lid. It does not hold the heat and even if the drainer function is clever, the exercise is a little tricky because the handles are not locked and you have to manage to hold the whole thing well (also annoying when pouring without the lid). After several uses, the lid started to warp, first at the drainer and then at the edges. This makes the whole thing difficult to store at first and then unusable in the longer term. We exchanged the meal for the first time in after-sales service (thanks a lot to Decathlon's efficient after-sales service) but the problem recurred. So we have the same situation again. After discussion with the after-sales service in store, they offered to exchange it again (entirely, no possibility of changing only the defective part unfortunately). So I'm afraid of finding myself in the same situation again in a few months. I'm planning a road trip of several weeks this summer and am therefore looking for a lasting solution (a metal cover perhaps?).

Good design, formidable finish

It would be nice to have the same kit, but without non-stick coating to make the food healthier, easier maintenance and good durability.

an excellent product, takes up little space and is well made. Of course, it's not the best to carry on your shoulder in your backpack as they are heavy due to the double bottom. but excluding this, they are excellent for camping!

Cook what you want, where you want! we present the contents of the mh500 cookset for 4 people:

1 measuring saucepan with 2 folding handles. (2.6 L usable, 3.1 L total, 530 g, Ø 23 cm x 11 cm)1 frying pan with 1 foldable, lockable handle (0.9 L usable, 1.1 L total, 430g, Ø 21 cm x 5 cm)4 plates (69 g each)4 mugs (0.25 L, 36 g each)4 sets of 3 cutlery items (fork, spoon, knife) clip-on (21 g per set)1 lid / strainer suitable for the saucepan or frying pan (110 g)1 silicone closure system serving as a trivet (65 g)1 transport bag ( 26

The choice of materials for our cooksets: a crucial choice:

We chose 18/8 (304) stainless steel because it combines food safety and long-term resistance: It does not oxidise and prevents corrosion. As stainless steel is a little less conductive than aluminium, we have added a double aluminium layer on the base of our saucepans and frying pans in the MH500 range. This diffuses the heat and increases heating efficiency, reducing the amount of gas needed to cook.

How did we choose the coating for our cook sets?

We have chosen a PTFE Xylan + coating by the brand Whitford for its non-stick/durability/price balance and because it is adapted to thin layers of metal (which isn't the case for ceramics). This coating does not contain PFOA-based glue and is suitable for cooking foods. And as with all coatings, we recommend that you avoid using metal cutlery or utensils, to avoid damaging the coating.

And now, we’ll tell you about the plastics in our cooking set!

Polyamide (cutlery and handle), polypropylene (plates, mugs), Tritan (lid) and silicon (table mat) were chosen because they are lightweight and heat-resistant (even up to 100°C), knocks and distortion. All our plastics in contact with food are Bisphenol-A free (BPA) in compliance with current French regulations. However, do not place the plastic in direct contact with a flame, or it may melt.

Our advice to get the best out of your cooking set:

Our cook sets are compatible with all types of fires (wood, gas, induction, etc.). The frying pan has a retractable handle that locks (unlocks) by pushing (pulling) the metal piece positioned in its centre. The lid fits the saucepan and frying pan and also serves as a strainer. Striations are provided on this lid in order to hold it without getting burnt. The plates have a structured design on the bottom limiting heat transfer.

How to store your cooking set?

To optimise total size and reduce noise during transport, we suggest you store the parts away in the following order:Cutlery fixed on the lid, mugs and plates in the saucepan. The trivet locks the set and the cover enables you to carry everything, even if dirty. If you’re in a hurry, or you aren't great at tidying away, you can also place all the parts in the saucepan (it’s just noisier and less optimised!).

How to clean and maintain your cook set?

Before the first use, rinse all the items 3 times with clean water. After use, wash the items with soapy (preferably hot) water and dry them before storing them in a dry place. All items are dishwasher safe, however it is advisable to wash your saucepans and frying pans by hand (to preserve the coating). Also avoid abrasive sponges or sand when cleaning the inside of utensils.

Is there anything you should avoid doing with your cooking set?

To avoid damaging them, never heat your saucepan or frying pan when empty. When using with a wood fire, make sure that the flames do not directly touch the plastic parts.Do not use metal utensils with non-stick coatings. If you carry things in your cooking set that may damage the coating, place them in a bag or piece of cloth. Finally, always lock the frying pan handle when you use it.

Materials and regulations

All of our products and materials meet current food contact standards and do not contain Bisphenol A (BPA) in compliance with current French regulations.

Product testing

Our products are subjected to a series of laboratory and field tests to validate the following points: Non-stick, mechanical, thermal, abrasion resistance.

Storage instructions

Wash and dry before storing away. Store in a clean, dry place.
