Great extra layer

Found this a great fit and addition under my QUECHUA Men's Hiking Lightweight Waterproof Jacket MH500. I'm impressed with the packability and the outer shell is harder wearing than other jackets I have tried.

Not good quality

Although this item is warm, after one wash all the padding has shrinked and all stuck to one side of the gilet. Shame had to return

Good Warm Gillet

Very warm & comfortable. The XL is slightly smaller than normal, but perfect fit over a tee shirt.

Great little hiking vest

I've only used it in the city so far, but it's a great little vest. Very light and warm. It takes up little space in my backpack. I'm satisfied.

I am delighted with my down jacket

I've never been a fan of down jackets, and even less so sleeveless ones. I've always thought they were a fad, seeing as they're everywhere. But since I'm very sensitive to the cold and always wear 50 layers under my coat, I decided to buy a sleeveless jacket, the advantage of which is that there's no extra bulk around my arms if I wear it under my long coat with rather tight sleeves. Since I'm sensitive to the cold, I wanted a warm one, but without having to break my savings plan and have to choose between buying a house or a warm down jacket. I admit I was delighted by its warmth, even though I would have liked it to be even warmer. I appreciated its lightness and the fact that it made me feel comfortable, without really explaining why. I feel it keeps me warm, and my attitude towards down jackets has completely changed. It's very compact, and it's great for globetrotting. The zippered pockets are super practical, even though I would have liked inside pockets. The look isn't completely neutral, but hey, we're at Decathlon and not Karl Lagerfeld... It's not ugly either, like the ones that look like trash bags. I'm dreaming of buying a really warm, long-sleeved one... However, the color-wise, meh. It's a good thing there's a plain black one, because the other two are really for fishing or hunting! It's always a pain to look for a technical garment that ticks all the boxes except the aesthetic one. There's a way to do something technical and pretty, or, failing that, something understated, without falling into the cliché of khaki sticking to the kuku or sand... Buying a down jacket from Célio because it's pretty or from Decathlon because it's warm, made with real down and feathers: a sad Cornelian dilemma... Regarding water repellency, it's not great, but maybe I'm not being very objective. In any case, it soaks up water quickly in a heavy rain (just going from the car to the tennis court).

Composition

Padding: 90.0% Grey Duck Down, 10.0% Grey Duck Feather ; Lining: 100.0% Polyamide ; Main fabric: 100.0% Polyester

Why wear a down gilet?

A gilet helps to keep the body warm. It protects the chest, neck and kidneys as these areas are especially sensitive to chills. It’s sleeveless so it saves weight in your backpack, provides even more breathability during exercise and excellent comfort of movement when worn under a jacket. Worn underneath the MT100 down jacket, it can provide 6°C extra warmth when compared to a down jacket worn without the gilet.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers- Ultra low weight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack- Ultra-compressible

Inflating power of down/feather filling

The fill power is a measure of the down fts thermal insulation capacity and its potential to InchtrapInch air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this sleeveless down jacket, with its 85% down/15% feather filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 660 CUIN or more (international standard).

Weight of the filling

How to care for a down and feather gilet?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it will retain its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin between 800 and 1000 rpm. 2/ - Tumble dry on cotton mode with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until dry.

A snag? here's how to repair your sleeveless padded gilet

A tear on a padded gilet can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping.Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Some of our in-store Decathlon workshops offer a repair service to mend your padded gilet using a heat-bonded patch.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing itThis prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warmThe fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it during prolonged exposure to the rainThe fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with useWe recommend that you restore it after each wash

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded gilet, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
