Picture it: a gentle breeze, a cool drink in your hand, and the rhythmic swaying of a hammock drifting you into a state of bliss. Sounds idyllic, right? Well, you can make it happen anywhere, whether it's in your backyard, at a campsite, or even on your balcony. With a Decathlon hammock, you can achieve ultimate relaxation quickly and easily. Let’s get you swaying in just 5 steps.
① Scout the perfect location
First things first. Look for a suitable hanging spot between two sturdy structures that are approximately 10-15 feet apart. Here are a couple of options:
- Trees: Ideal! Just make sure they're healthy and can bear your weight in addition to the hammock.
- Posts: If you've got dedicated hammock stands, great. If not, strong porch supports might work, if the spacing is adequate.
② Secure the straps
Most hammocks (especially these Decathlon hammocks) come with tree-friendly straps for easy hanging. Wrap a strap around each support at roughly eye level. Make sure the straps are tight and sit evenly.
Pro tip: For added stability, give your straps one extra twist around the tree.
③ Adjust the height
Time to attach your hammock. Depending on the style, you'll probably have either carabiners or loops on the ends. They make experimenting with different heights a cinch. Aim for a comfortable angle and a hammock height that makes it easy to get in or out.
Pro tip: We’ve found that the optimal height is 18 inches above the ground when the hammock is occupied.
④ Test the stability
Safety first! Before you fully commit, give your newly hung hammock a gentle test shake. Is it securely anchored? Are there any wobbles or signs of strain? Adjust as needed.
Pro tip: If you tend to sleep in your hammock, try a slightly tighter hang to prevent your back from curving too much overnight.
A few extra items to consider
For maximum enjoyment, we recommend these add-ons:
- Pillows and blankets. Make your hammock extra cozy for naptime.
- Bug protection. A bug net will be your best friend in Mosquito Country.
- Hammock stand. No trees? No problem! Hammock stands offer great flexibility.
