mt900 ul forclaz backpack

its a nice rucksack I would not say it is ultralight weight as such. the worrying thing about the side pockets is they are open at the sides which is a bit strange. But it has a good back system.it is lightweight it is a little bit heavier than my old osprey exos 48 L.

A very good backpack for experienced tourists who follow the light & fast principle on multi-day trips. The backpack is roomy and relatively light for its size. The lightness comes from the use of relatively thin materials and a delicate and minimalist construction. It is certainly not as resistant to abrasions and tears as other classic backpacks, so you have to be careful on rocks or when breaking through the forest so as not to tear it on a branch. However, I take care of the equipment I buy and prefer to have half a kilo less on my back, because it makes a difference when you hike every day for several days from morning to evening with a load of 8-10 kg. I am 196 cm tall and thanks to the adjustment, the backpack fits very well on my back. I made a conscious choice, I already have several other branded backpacks with different capacities and this one works very well in this category/capacity. Thanks to the straps on the bottom of the backpack, I can attach a very light 2-person MSR Hubba Hubba tent. Unfortunately, when hiking in the mountains on very uneven terrain, when there are bigger shocks when going down the mountain, these straps holding the tent loosen and I have to tighten them every half hour - an hour and this is really the only downside I found to this backpack. Apart from that, a very good specialized construction. I definitely recommend it, but for conscious users.

Light and practical

I've never used another hiking pack. It's light and practical, despite the occasional creak and a significant amount of fragility. I used the first one for 7,000 km and the second for 5,000 km (it didn't like bush-bashing or bus compartments). It hates being overloaded; the foam and seams aren't designed to carry more than 16 kg. I've overloaded it a few times, and it's easy to repair. The waist belt, however, is irreparable when it tears at the bag. The biggest drawback: the waist pockets are great, but unfortunately they're not waterproof. Not suitable for bush-bashing.

very good for the price

I have used the backpack on relatively short hikes and I can say with certainty that it is a very comfortable backpack, if you know how to fit it properly. If you don't fasten it correctly, the frame will dig into your shoulder or hip. If you do it correctly, it won't. It easily carried 12 kg and I am planning to do a 5 day hike in the Alps with it in the summer. I will definitely carry more than 12 kg but I think I will be able to do that. The backpack is sturdy and even though it feels like the material is not that strong, it is. The only real downside I can mention is the color of the backpack. I would personally go for the women's model since it has a more subtle color. This color is not really nice. Apart from all that, the backpack is really good for the price. If you are not planning to backpack too much like 3 or 4 times a year, then this is definitely something for you. If you're going to be doing it more, I'd look at an Osprey or a Deuter.

Didn't fit my back but very good design

icon-circle-checkmark verified purchase

good

Poor value for money

Others should also know that the creaking sound of this backpack will give them a loud start. This is because the material has worn through after two wears, and the metal construction is uncomfortable for the back and hips. Of course, this isn't a guarantee, it's an excuse.

Outdoor equipment is fairly light

Very good backpack

This backpack is light, carries weight very well and has a handy shape. The net on the back also prevents objects from being felt in the backpack.

He keeps his promises!

I was eager to test this new MT900 UL. Bought the day before yesterday, first "analysis" the same day and first outing yesterday! No feedback yet on the resistance, but at first glance, it keeps its promises, even if two or three small things can still be improved to gain in comfort/solidity/weight: 1) Why have you placed the rain cover in the inside pocket of the flap? It would be better placed in a bottom pocket (which also protects and cushions the bottom of the bag when you put it down) 2) Why "knotted" rather than sewn closing straps? 3) The waist strap pockets are huge, almost disproportionate! 4) The string that acts as a compression strap: first, I find that it is less effective/strong than classic straps, then I feel that it will quickly annoy me to have this little piece of string that swings on each side... 5) The small straps that allow you to attach an element outside under the bag. In itself, a good practical idea. In reality, useless for those who do not have use for them (I hesitate to cut them). It would be better to provide attachment loops, either large enough to pass our own straps through, or with, for example, removable straps supplied as an accessory... 6) The small strap with a snap button that allows you to "secure" the closure at the top of the riser is of no interest! 7) In parallel with remark 5, and the biggest downside in my eyes, the double pull tab for the side opening: it is not at all secure in its lower part. With the result that it could open during a hike (snagging on a branch, bad joke or pickpocket in a public place, etc.). In addition, I have doubts about the waterproofness of this zipper (I'm talking about the clasp in its lower part). That said, I salute the work of the designers who imagined this bag! My remarks are intended to be constructive and not critical ;-) Looking forward to the 2026 edition ;-)

Air design

Inspired by its sister, the MT500 AIR, this bag replicates many of the features of its ventilated back structure with a mesh fabric so that the back can breathe more and dry quickly.

Capacity

50 L volume +10 L extension. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.

How to use the multi-use straps?

The new MT500 AIR and MT900 UL series of trekking backpacks have two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this or detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.

Complementary accessories

To make your MT900 UL bag easier to use, check out our storage accessories, repair buckles or hanging straps on our website.

Recommended carry weight

According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 12 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.

Materials

Main fabric in 100D RS polyamide (ripstop = additional resistance to tearing), reinforced bag bottom (210D RS)

Product testing

All our backpacks are field-tested by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. In particular, our Test Missions bring together the product manager with people who are not affiliated with DECATHLON to test, improve and validate the products. This particular model was tested over a five-week period by trekkers in the Canaries, Pyrenees and the Mont-Blanc mountain range.
