Question:

The description says static rated at 0 degrees f but active at 23 degrees f. Im assuming that is a mistake and needs to be switched correct?

Answer:

This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of 23°F during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 3.1 mi/h wind. We have also tested this model in ”static” mode; the comfort temperature is 0°F in this case.

Static on the other hand is when you are not moving.

light as a bird

I have been using the coat for about 3 years. Let me write about my long user experiences. First of all, it is very light and breaks the cold very well. There has been no wear and tear in 3 years. However, never wash the coat in the machine. I made that mistake once. The bird feathers inside crumpled and the structure of the coat was damaged. Then I took it to the dry cleaners and had it fixed, luckily the coat came out the same as the day I first bought it from the dry cleaners. Be sure to have your coat cleaned by a professional dry cleaner, stating that it contains bird feathers. They do not do dry cleaning, but with their drying and shrinking machines, the coat comes out flat, new and very well fluffed. At least that's how he removed the coat that was ruined in the dry cleaning washing machine I gave him. When I bought this coat 3 years ago, it was sold under the name Quechua with the slogan "The lightest and warmest coat in the world." At first I didn't think it was overrated, but it really hits the top, it's a very high quality and stylish coat. It doesn't look like it will wear out easily, but I will use it again when it wears out. It seemed expensive at the time, but it proved to be sold almost for free. If you are looking for a high-end product, its current price is quite affordable compared to the products on the market. In a few years it will be close to free at this price.

From 1-10 I would rate it a 10. Very good

You don't need to take off the jacket when it gets very warm. All you have to do is open the zippers on the sides.

Very good item

Warm, but has terrible pockets

Everything falls out of the unzipped pocket during normal walking. I lost a hat worth PLN 150, what does Decathlon say?!

How warm is this padded jacket?

This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of 23°F during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 3.1 mi/h wind. We have also tested this model in ”static” mode; the comfort temperature is 0°F in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports:- Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers- Ultra low weight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack- Ultra-compressible

How to measure the fill power of a down and feather wadding?

The fill power is a measure of the down's thermal insulation capacity and its potential to ”trap” air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this down jacket with its 85% down and 15% feathers filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 660 CUIN or more (international standard).

Reducing the risk of feather loss

The main stitching of the compartments containing the down and feather are heat-sealed to prevent the loss of feathers

What is rds certification?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organization to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only feathers from geese and ducks raised for their meat and slaughtered before down and feathers are collected.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it.This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The material of this down jacket is water-repellent; we recommend wearing a waterproof jacket over it in the event of prolonged exposure to rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use.We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 86°F, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle. 2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to restore water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

A snag? this is how to repair your down jacket

A tear on a padded jacket can happen when backpacking! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping. Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Some Decathlon workshops offer an in-store repair service to mend your padded jacket using a heat-bonded patch.
