Modular and lightweight. A mast consists of four parts: 1 top with tip, 2 intermediates and 1 base with plastic cap. The size of the mast can be increased by increasing the number of intermediates. And the cap can be removed from the base so that it can be planted in soft soil to the desired depth by digging a small hole using a simple conical gardening planter. Strong and flexible. Under load, the steel mast bends slightly and/or twists but does not break. Better than extendable aluminum masts that end up breaking or bending, or no longer jamming and retract under load. Simplicity. The junction segment is deep enough, the jamming spring is not one but a bent rod that cannot be dislodged. If it were inoperative, the depth and a piece of adhesive would be enough to perpetuate use. I used them by extending the mast with 3 intermediate parts instead of 2 to fully support the load of a 25 m² (5x5 m) tarp for 2 weeks with wind and rain. The base without end cap sunk 15 cm into the ground. No problem with the poles except the organization of the ropes which becomes worthy of that of a sailboat. ADVICE: Prepare pieces of rope that are fixed with a slip knot at the tip and a carabiner at the other end. The rope that comes above the others must be the one that will be connected to the ground and which by its higher tension will hold the other knots on the tip.
I have already bought a second set to make a high vestibule in front of the tent from two. It works. There is nothing to complain about. You can make a higher pole by mixing the tubes from the 2 sets.
