huge disappointment

I am a fan of Decathlon products for their quality/price ratio. Big disappointment with this product. From the first outing with rain I came back soaked. I insisted and I confirm that this product lets the rain pass through quite quickly. For breathability, it's not better. If you're'll also be wet even if it's not raining. Damage.

Very questionable waterproofing

Machine washed at 30° before first use, and worn during a 4.5 hour outing in the rain, the waterproofing did not hold up and the jacket did not retain water in any way. Very disappointing. Return to store.

Jacket is great. I recommend it.

Barely put broken closure

This product is not of good quality, it is small and does not stretch. The zipper broke the first time I put it on.

At Decathlon I always have to order one or two sizes larger for cycling jackets. I normally wear size M. At Decathlon I wear XL.

Best Jacket

I've had the jacket since 2019 and I'm absolutely happy with it. I also use it for running (a hood would have been cool for that). On MTB tours I'm often the only one who has a shirt under the jacket that stays completely dry. Totally flexible and very breathable - I would buy it again if it ever got carried away.

Excellent product

Product very good except for the zipper

Used daily for 8 months. Effective in waterproofing except for very intense rain. Perfect as a windbreaker to combat the cold. On the other hand, the zipper quickly showed resistance and it ended up giving way and did not seem repairable.

Used in all rainy conditions and I never ever got wet. Space estate indeed. The pockets present are super comfortable, they are also watertight. The rear flap is essential to avoid wetting your bottom while pedaling if you don't have mudguards. Super recommended, both for intensive use and for occasional use such as commuting to work.

Too expensive

I bought this jacket in August 2023. I would say it was used normally, 2/3 outings per week. A few machine washes. Result today, not even a year after its purchase, the letters "van rysel" have almost all come off. A detail but for a jacket at €55 meh. A few euros more for a big brand and this kind of detail won't happen, at least not so soon. Quality and affordable prices from Decathlon are no longer really there today.

Good mid-season jacket but not practical closure

Light, well-cut and waterproof mid-season jacket Fault for me: the closure too difficult to use while riding and not very sturdy The large zipped rear pocket, I would have preferred at least one small elastic pocket

Additional Product Information

Main fabric: 100.0% Polyester ; Yoke: 100.0% Polyester ; Coating: 100.0% Polyurethane ; Membrane: 100.0% Polyurethane

Fabric waterproofing

A fabric's waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to the pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (test based on ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The RC500 jacket's waterproofing stats: 8,000 mm before washing, 5,000 mm after 5 washes.

Jacket waterproofing

It's not just the fabric that's important for the product's waterproofing; the construction is just as big a deal. The seams on the RC500 are sealed and we have chosen to use the waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zipper.

Fabric breathability (ret)

To determine a fabric's breathability we measure its evaporative resistance or RET (based on standard ISO11092). The lower its resistance, the more it lets water vapor produced by the body escape, therefore the more breathable it is. •RET <6: Extremely breathable, suitable for most intense workouts•RET 6 to 12: Very breathable, designed for moderate exercise•RET 12 to 20: Moderately breathable, not enough for exercise•RET >20: little breathability, unsuitable for exercise

Membrane or coating?

The RC500 jacket's fabric has a membrane. The membrane is a type of very thin micro-perforated plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric both waterproof and breathable. It is also very supple, lighter, more durable and more breathable than a fabric with a coating.A coating is like a layer of paint on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof. It costs less than a membrane, and requires a lining to protect it.

Fold-up flap

As you know, if the road is wet, it can be very unpleasant getting your shorts covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this problem, we've equipped the RC500 jacket with a retractable flap at the base of the back. It can be discreetly folded into the back of the jacket, and is very practical when needed. It goes without saying that adding a mudguard to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.

CLASSIC FIT: Fitted and comfortable. This timeless cut is perfect for your longer bike rides, whether in the saddle or having a break. This fit is tighter than our InchRelaxed Fit, Inch but not as tight as our InchPro Fit. Inch

Product testing

Our team of designers and cycling enthusiasts is based in Lille, in northern France, not far from Flanders and its legendary cycling routes. To get this rainproof jacket just right, we tested it all over Flanders throughout the winter: we believe that only by subjecting our products to real world conditions, like the ones you experience on your bike, can we continuously improve them.
