Questions & Answers

Question:
What type of pressure valve does the Itiwit Adult X500 V2 Inflatable Kayak use for inflating? Thanks!
Answer:
This kayak uses the High pressure Bravo valve. The same type you find on most of the SUPs.
Question:
What are the official X500 (V2 1-person) cockpit dimensions for fitting a spray skirt? Will Decathlon’s Itiwit X500 spray skirt be available in the USA?
Answer:
Yes our Itiwit spraydeck will be back in stock within 3 weeks. The dimension is what we called "Standard big deck" all big deck spraydeck will fit.
Question:
The material is listed as "PVC." Is there a denier rating associated with the kayak material? I'm curious about the kayaks durability in shallow water with rocks and submerged logs. Thanks!
Answer:
There is no denier rating for PVC as it is not textile but Vinyl. There will be no problem with logs and rocks as long as they are not sharp.

Product Customer Reviews

A great kayak to swallow up the kilometers, the pleasure of gliding on the water is there! However, before starting I advise you to watch the Decathlon tutorial videos (a flash code on the product would be welcome) a 10 psi high pressure pump is essential! Another tip regarding the adjustment of the toe clips: remember to mark the adjustment with a permanent marker for future outings because it is a cm adjustment, it is a question of comfort and balance! All you have to do is tame the stability of the whole thing and let's go for new nautical sensations:
Surprisingly fast and stable for an air kayak, but therefore not maneuverable at all, so it can only really be used on larger rivers. Very quick to set up, but very difficult to fold and pack. The DropStich material makes it simply too stiff to pack well. Getting the spraydeck into the narrow coaming is also an annoying hassle. The often criticized wobbliness isn't that bad, I've even had beginners use it and they've been able to cope with it fairly well. It is less suitable for clumsy paddlers.
Great kayak, I bought it at the end of June and have sailed 400 km so far. A little wobbly, but you get used to it, quite fast. Unfortunately, it is cramped and difficult to get in and out of. I found one drawback - I have a problem with the smallest compartment. I thought the valve was loose, but it wasn't. The air comes out of her. After two hours of swimming, you need to top up the air. After four hours without pumping, there is almost no air there. Fortunately, you can swim with it, but the kayak becomes a little less stiff. After the season ends, I will be forced to advertise.
It is a kayak with characteristics very similar to a rigid "sit in" kayak, that is, when the kayaker sits inside and covers his feet with a "skirt." As an initial kayak it is spectacular, although it requires balance skills and paddling technique. Its instability is very important to make it a faster than normal kayak. It is the closest thing to a rigid touring kayak. It has the capacity to carry a load for a day or even two.
Hello, It's really been 2 months that I have been kayaking twice a week with an advance Lagoon 1 inflatable. I have a 2.6m 85cm wide inflatable, nice baby for doing river hikes, too bad I was using it in the Etang de Berre with waves/wind/current in short the worst conditions! I wanted to upgrade my workouts with the itiwit x500 dropstich and I am not disappointed with my investment. Reading the numerous comments, the majority who explain that there is a lack of stability are in reality people who are either: too fat or who rarely practice or have a balance problem, let me explain: I have bought the V2, the hull is V-shaped and yes we are tackling a performance and narrower profiled sea kayak so you have to expect it to sway a little but when you go from a big unsinkable baby to that bah yes at the beginning it's destabilizing but after 50m you've got it! In short, what I remember is that after 15km of lake I have great pleasure to say that I managed to finally reach 11km/h peak, a Vavg of 9km/h, crazy stability on a V hull, there is so much storage that it gives ideas for hiking for several days, my back hurts but it gets better with a little foam added to the backrest, you have to take the waves head on to break it and don't worry about rolling over haha, the 5 compartments thing is luxury, as Jeff Tuche said, you can puncture 1 time but not 5 except that here it's real! Assembly/disassembly ~ 7min. I'm going to test it at sea today with a bit of swell, it can only be fun! Can't wait to test it with the skirt and see how far it can take me! Hats off Decath!
I have this kayak and used it in the Vltava river (Prague). really unstable. cannot be stationary in water with it without hitting the water to be stable again. and it is a 2022 model. Also the seat is terrible and your back will hurt because the seat does not give you the space your back needs and your back will touch the narrow rubber frame instead. I regret buying it...
I have now covered several kilometers in the kayak and all I can say is, Super Kjak.
Very happy with this kayak. It is very well built has a superior glide through the water and quite good stability. A clear 5:ai rating
Tip in case of punctures: tubeless fluid for bicycle tires. This tip saved my kayak ;-)
Great boat, easy to handle. Only one minus - the seat is not comfortable. Hope they will come soon with a new seat so we can fully enjoy this kayak.
I bought the kayak in May 23rd. Left-hand twist, despite repeated construction and changing the order of inflating the chambers. Still doable on a calm lake. Today on the Greifswalder Bodden with about 50cm waves and wind force 2 trying to control it, life-threatening! Extreme left-hand spin, always turns parallel to the wave, and for 1.5km I only had to countersteer left with the paddle stroke. I've been riding kayaks for 36 years and back then also regattas, racing kayaks 1 and 4. This boat in waves is life-threatening. I wish I could give it back.
I was skeptical at first but from the first strokes of the paddles this inflatable notebook proved to be very pleasant and very stable. It glides well and the bow-shaped points make it an easy boat for beginners who will have no difficulty moving in a straight line. Very good design of the seat and the footrest principle. I haven't tried it in white water yet but I have no worries... you will simply have to avoid waterways where the boat risks rubbing or rivers requiring a boat to be very maneuverable.
Around thirty kilometers traveled: I'm having fun with this kayak
Great product. Price performance is right. Features are great for an inflatable kayak. 100% buy recommendation
It is assembled very quickly, and it swells immediately, it has very good finishes. It is very stable and very fast. And it is also very easy to pick up.

What are the dimensions and weight?
”When the kayak is inflated:> length: 12'6”> width: 25.2”When stored in its bag:> height: 37”> width: 19.7”> thickness: 10.6”> full weight: 39.7 lbs (kayak itself 35.3 lbs)Hatch storage: 24”
An innovation, and a patent pending!
The initial idea? Design our dream kayak: A high-performance inflatable kayak that we can take with us everywhere with its backpack, in short: freedom! To get to this stage, 30 months of studying and developing 7 prototypes - which we call in our jargon a ”mock-up” - were required. The main challenge was: to provide rigidity and performance in an inflatable kayak. Which is why we patented the cut shape and the unique blend of materials we used.
Why a rigid inflatable kayak?
”We listened to kayakers: ”I have a good level in kayaking and I want an inflatable kayak that has the same performance as a rigid kayak,” ”I want to go kayaking using public transport,” ”Inflatable kayaks are nice, but I want a kayak that is goes fast!”So we had to make a high-performing kayak that was easily transportable. Innovation was the only option
Marc ronet, naval architect tells us about the adventure with decathlon:
”My work involved defining the overall geometry of the kayak, its general balance. When Itiwit called me, I was surprised but very interested. I love kayaking, so we had that in common. We were able to build on our respective knowledge. It was an amazing experience!”
Why the name ”kayak x500 dropstitch”?
”The ”dropstitch” is a material. 2 layers of PVC are connected by thousands of polyester strands. When inflated to high pressure, these threads tighten and create a rigid volume, which prevents the kayak from loosing its shape.Which is what makes our inflatable kayak extremely rigid but easy to stow in a backpack once deflated.”
How was the design worked?
True teamwork between the engineer, the architect, and the product manager. Emmanuelle designed the product according to the technical constraints. We can talk about functional design. The dark gray corresponds to paddling zone, the light gray to the cargo area, and orange to visibility needs.
How to inflate and mount the kayak?
”1. Inflate the main chamber (floor), then the intermediate chambers (walls), followed by the small chambers (arches). All the volumes are inflated to 10 PSI max (0.7 bar).2. You can insert the footrests on the flexible guides, push them inside the kayak, and adjust to your leg length with the buckle.3. Position the seat by fitting it onto the shims provided. 4. Position the backrests under the coaming. We recommend the HP Itiwit twin-action hand pump (8387655), not supplied.”
How to disassemble and deflate the kayak?
”You'll see it's quite simple!1. Make sure the folding surface is clean.2. Remove the seat.3. Remove the footrests 4. Deflate the kayak by removing the cap and pressing the valve. (Leave the valve in the open position for air to escape)5. Tuck in the hatch and start folding lengthwise.”
How to fold it up to put it in the bag?
”1. We recommend placing the canvas of the bridge inside the fold. 2. Fold the keel over its entire length. This fold ensures that the width of the kayak is the same as that of the bag.3. Fold each end toward the inside of the kayak and line up the ends with the Itiwit logo.4. Slot the seat in the last fold of the kayak and finish expelling air from the kayak by pressing on it.5. Finishing step: Strap the kayak (a good strap makes it easier to put it in the bag).”
